He could feel the mattress beneath him now, soft and warm, and there was a faint scent in the room that he did not recognize.
The air was quiet, much quieter than the places he remembered, and somewhere nearby he could hear the low murmur of voices. The sounds seemed strange to him, and although he could hear people moving around him, none of the voices were familiar enough to make him feel safe. Cooper frowned faintly as he tried to make sense of where he was, his small body feeling unusually heavy and weak beneath the covers.
"…his condition has remained stable."
The words reached him slowly, and Cooper blinked as he tried to open his eyes. At first, everything appeared blurred, with pale shapes moving around him, but as his vision gradually cleared, he found himself staring at an unfamiliar ceiling.
