Chapter 69 - Chapter 69 Arrival in Viridian City, Heading to the Haunted House!

As dusk settled, Viridian City was ablaze with lights.

On the road leading to the city center, Officer Jenny sat in her guard post, broadcasting her daily address to the residents.

"All residents of Viridian City, thank you for your hard work! Dinner time should be over by now. Recently, there have been frequent incidents of pickpockets and thieves kidnapping Pokémon, so please be vigilant! Try to avoid going out at night!"

Just as she finished speaking, Officer Jenny suddenly saw a furtive figure running from the end of the road through the guard post's glass window.

"Huh? Another trainer coming?"

Officer Jenny quickly went outside, reaching out to stop the person for a routine check.

But when she saw the figure clearly, her eyes widened instantly.

"That Pokémon is…! Hey, wait a minute!"

Hearing the voice, Fuyuki and Entei stopped and looked at the woman.

The woman was wearing a blue police uniform, a police cap, and a fanny pack.

"Officer Jenny?"

Fuyuki paused, stunned.

Officer Jenny's gaze remained fixed on Entei.

Its imposing and handsome appearance compelled her to move closer for a closer look.

"What a cool Pokémon! It's even more impressive than the Arcanine in the police station! What kind of Pokémon is this?" Officer Jenny couldn't help but ask.

Fuyuki smiled and said, "It's called Entei."

"What?!" Officer Jenny gasped, covering her mouth in surprise. "Could it be the Entei from the legends of the Johto region?"

"That's right."

Officer Jenny's eyes widened even further, but she immediately realized something.

Someone capable of catching such a Pokémon must be a powerful trainer, right?

Amazing! To be able to catch such a powerful and rare legendary Pokémon!

Officer Jenny looked up at Fuyuki atop Entei, not underestimating him because of his age.

After all, there are many geniuses in this world; some powerful trainers even win major championships, becoming Elite Four members or regional champions in just one year!

"This boy might be one of them," Officer Jenny thought.

She saluted him and said, "Hello, Trainer, I'm Officer Jenny from Viridian City. Lately, there have been many thieves and pickpockets in the city, so I need to check every visitor. Please show me your ID!"

Fuyuki nodded. He remembered that in the anime, Ash was also questioned by Officer Jenny as a suspicious person when he passed by here.

He took out the Pokédex given to him by Professor Oak and handed it to her.

Officer Jenny took it, pressed a few buttons, and Professor Oak's voice came from the Pokédex.

"This Pokédex is for Fuyuki. Good luck, Pokémon Trainer! Also, this Pokédex cannot be replaced once lost, so please be careful! This is a message from Professor Oak of Pallet Town."

"Another Trainer from Pallet Town?" Officer Jenny couldn't help but say, "You're the fifth Trainer to come from Pallet Town today, but you're much better than the last clumsy guy."

"Clumsy guy?" Fuyuki was a little surprised.

"That's right, his name is Ash. He doesn't even know that the Pokédex is like an ID card, and he and his Pikachu were seriously injured. They should be receiving treatment at the Pokémon Center now. If you go there, you might even run into them!" Officer Jenny said.

Fuyuki: "..."

"Alright, your identity is fine. You can pass through. Welcome to Viridian City!" Officer Jenny returned the Pokédex to Fuyuki.

Fuyuki had never been to Viridian City in all these years.

He was completely unfamiliar with this city. Although Professor Oak had given him an address, Fuyuki didn't know exactly where it was.

Viridian City was enormous, ranking among the top five in the entire Kanto region.

Looking at Officer Jenny, Fuyuki tried to ask for her help.

"By the way, Officer Jenny, do you know where this place is?" Fuyuki handed over the address Professor Oak had given him.

"326 Butterfly Road, House..." Officer Jenny read aloud, "Huh? What are you going there for?"

"No one has lived there for a long time. It seems to have become a haunted house. I heard from the residents that it's often haunted!"

"I need to take care of something there," Fuyuki said.

"I see..." Officer Jenny smiled, "Alright then, let me take you there!"

"Eh? Isn't this a bit too much trouble for you?" Fuyuki hesitated.

"Serving the citizens is our duty as police officers in Viridian City!"

Officer Jenny pulled up her police motorcycle and patted the seat next to her. "Come on, get on, just put your Pokémon in its Poké Ball!"

Fuyuki glanced at Entei, then shook his head. "Never mind, we'll just follow behind."

"Alright then! You'd better keep up!"

Officer Jenny started the motorcycle and sped off down the wide road.

Entei and Fuyuki followed at a comfortable distance. They quickly entered the city and arrived at their destination, finally stopping in front of a dilapidated, lifeless mansion.

The mansion had been neglected for years, clearly abandoned; weeds grew rampant in the yard, and the roof tiles were broken and tattered.

"We're here! This is it!" Officer Jenny seemed to recall something, then added, "It's really sad to think about!"

"I heard that a happy family of three used to live in this house, but while they were traveling, the husband and wife were brutally murdered, and their only child disappeared. But I suppose a child under a year old couldn't possibly survive in a place like that?"

"They never came back after that, and only a Pokémon remained in the house."

"People in the neighborhood wanted to adopt it, but the Pokémon refused to leave. It stayed in the house waiting for its owners to return. At first, everyone would bring it food."

"But after the Pokémon learned that its owners were dead, it stopped eating the food. Then one day, it suddenly disappeared, and the people in the neighborhood never saw it again."

"Some people say it ran away to look for its owners."

"Others say it's dead."

Officer Jenny sighed. At that time, she was a newly appointed trainee police officer, and everyone in the police station felt sorry for her when they heard about the case.

Fuyuki: "..."

"Thank you so much, Officer Jenny."

"The residents nearby say this house is haunted! Maybe it's a Ghost-type Pokémon causing trouble, so please be careful!"

Officer Jenny wanted to say something more, but suddenly received a phone call, and her expression immediately turned serious.

"I understand, I'm coming right away!"

"Trainer, a group of criminals who specialize in stealing other people's Pokémon have broken into the Pokémon Center in Viridian City. Be careful, I'm going to arrest them!" Officer Jenny said solemnly.

After saying that, she rode off on her police motorcycle at high speed.

Fuyuki: "..."

He looked up at the dilapidated house in front of him with mixed feelings.

A haunted house?

Entei silently accompanied Fuyuki, its majestic voice resounding in Fuyuki's heart.

"Little one, don't worry, no matter what happens, I will be by your side."
