city doesn't sleep It simply lowers its lights. Nancy stood at the edge of the rooftop,staring down at the endless neon arteries below.
It had rained two hours ago. concrete still shimmered pink, blue, electric violet.
Above the sky,
The Core Grid.
Curved rings of light spread outward, silent and vast.They pressed down on the city's mind without making a sound.
"Emotion bandwidth: 12% stable."
mechanical voice whispered inside her earpiece.she closed her eyes,
"Twelve percent."..
permitted amount of emotion required for survival.She remembered her mother's face when she was young
Once, it used to change when she laughed.After the system update the smile became identical. Same length. Same intensity.
"Adaptive dampening prevents collapse," they had said.
But Nancy knew It didn't prevent collapse,It prevented rebellion.On the other side of the rooftop Elior.wind pushed his coat back as he stared upward, toward the center of the Grid.
"You're looking at it again," Nancy said.
didn't answer.
"No one in this city looks up anymore. They're afraid."
"They're trained," he replied finally, voice cold,"Fear is obsolete Conditioning replaced it."

Distant city noise,drone traffic.Holographic advertisements.A child crying somewhere below then abruptly cut off.Emotion suppression spike Nancy's breath tightened.
"Case 01 is active again," she said.

"Confirm?"
"Unregistered surge. 43% emotional resonance. Without collapse."wind strengthened.Above them, Grid flickered a subtle glitch.something shifted inside Nancy.
"This isn't a normal anomaly,the system reaction is delayed. It's… confused."
"Confusion means evolution."he walked slowly toward her,
"Or extermination," she replied,looked at him carefully.She was never trained to trust him.But she could no longer trust the system.In her palm, she held an old metal chip.Her mother's implant fragment.From the first experimental phase of the Grid.
"I'm not just an observation unit,",,
"If Case 01 collapses they'll make him a public example."
"He won't collapse," Elior said with certainty.

"Because suppression failed."

Above them, the Grid's center began to glow brighter.Across the city, a few people lifted their heads.Signal fluctuation.
"Alert level rising," Nancy whispered.

Fear began growing inside her but it did not cross the 12% limit.
"They'll isolate him," she said.
"Neural lockdown. Memory wipe."
he smiled..,there was something dangerously calm about it.
"Let them try."
Then...,streak of light tore across the sky.not lightning,data stream.It descended and struck the center of the city.Impact shockwave rooftop trembled.
Nancy nearly lost her balance Elior caught her wrist.eyes met for a fraction of a second.
Emotion spike: 18%.
Red warning rings lit across the Grid.
"Unauthorized emotional ignition detected."AI announcement echoed through the city.
"This isn't collapse," she whispered.
"This is"
"Awakening," Elior finished.
For the first time, the city held its breath.At the center of the Grid,a dark circle began forming.Light folded inward silence.
An old memory surfaced in Nancy's mind her mother's voice:
"One day the Grid will fail.
And when it does, humans will have to learn how to feel again."
Her earpiece crackled with static.
Then an unfamiliar voice.
"Subject Case 01 has breached emotional ceiling."

she stopped breathing,"Impossible…"
he stared upward light reflected in his eyes.
"Finally."
next moment a shape appeared inside the Grid's center.a human silhouette formed from light and data.entire city could see it,Inside Nancy, for the first time.
12% limit broke,,
Emotion spike: 27%.....System sirens.
"Stability failure imminent."
"Is this the beginning…?"
"No." he answered,faint smile touched his lips.
"This is the end of the experiment."
sky darkened for the first time,Grid trembled.and from within it,a voice emerged human voice.
"Stop compressing me."
