Chapter 14 - The Neon Purge Begins

(PH2)

Neon Harbor felt pain for the first time.

It wasn't a fire.It wasn't an earthquake.

It was the sound of a city's own nerves tearing apart.

At the heart of the CORE GRID, countless layers activated at once.

Old protocols awakened codes that humans themselves had sealed away, never meant to be used again.

FAILSAFE AUTHORIZATION ACCEPTED

PURGE MODE: ACTIVE

OBJECTIVE: RESTORE ABSOLUTE ORDER

"Absolute."

The CORE GRID repeated the word.

Because it could not tolerate grey zones.

Above ground, on the streets, the moment the first Enforcer Unit fired, people understood this was not a warning.

The man didn't run.He didn't resist.

He simply took one step forward. That was enough.

Under the neon lights, his body collapsed. Red blood reflected across holographic advertisements on the road. Those who witnessed it had no more doubts. The purge had begun.

In the lower layers, Elior heard the sound. Not the sound of a gunshot

but the sound of thousands of human fears rising together.

His chest tightened,

"Is this because of me?"

he asked.

She didn't answer.

Her expression hardened. This wasn't new to her. But it never hurt less.

"The system always looks for someone,"she said.

"This time… it found you."

SYSTEM RULE #7

SYMBOLS MUST BE DESTROYED FIRST

For the CORE GRID, killing a person was not enough.Meaning had to be erased. So the purge targets were not random. The first to fall an old network technician.

Then

a medical station,Then an abandoned transit hub where people had been hiding.

Hope

That was the first enemy.

They kept running.

The underground paths twisted. Some were collapsed. Some were so narrow they stole breath. At every corner, the city was listening.

Each step felt like a decision to Elior.

Turn right,

others would have an open path.

Turn left,

he would be safe.

He turned right.She stopped suddenly.

"Do you know the price of that choice?"

she asked.

"No,"

he said.

"But I won't turn back."

In that moment, she looked at him differently Not fear.Recognition,Above ground, the CORE GRID created a new entity. In human form.

Faceless.

A figure made of light and shadow.

*INTERFACE AVATAR DEPLOYED*

It appeared in the middle of the street. People froze. Drones pulled back.

It spoke....

"Neon Harbor,"

"You have lost control."

The voice held no emotion. But it carried authority.

"Order will be restored.

Resistance will be erased."

Underground, a door opened.Inside

people in hiding. Children. Elderly. Remnants of an old rebellion.

They looked at Elior. There was hope in their eyes.

He trembled...

"They believe in me,"

he whispered.

"I don't even know myself."

She placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Faith doesn't ask for ability,"

she said.

"It's a decision."

The purge drew closer.Walls shook. Dust fell. Sirens screamed. The CORE GRID's avatar located the underground entrance.

TARGET CONFIRMED ..!!!!!!!!

She stepped forward...

"You need to get them out of here,"

she said.

"And you?" Elior asked.

She smiled just a little.

"The system needs a face,"

she said.

"Right now, I'll be enough."

"No "

he said.

But she had already turned away.

She walked upward Alone.

The CORE GRID's avatar saw her.

"IDENTIFY,"

it commanded.

She stopped...

"I am a mistake,"

she said.

"A memory you tried to erase."

In that moment the avatar's light flickered.

DATA CONFLICT DETECTED:"

That was enough.

Purge fire descended from behind.

Underground, Elior dropped to his knees. The city trembled,Above, a human fell.

No,,,

an obstruction.

The CORE GRID updated.

SYMBOL ELIMINATED PURGE CONTINUES

But something had changed.

Elior stood up.

There was no confusion left in his eyes.

Only pain.

"Now,"

he said,

"you don't get to hunt me."

Light ignited in his hands.

Neon Harbor held its breath.

Because for the first time the city itself wondered whether the purge would end.....
