Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 I Have Always Known

"It talks about resurrection, right?" He asked, a mixture of nervousness and anxiety evident in his voice.

"Yes," I replied. I fixed the beanie on my head. I caressed the hairs at the back of my neck.

His expression worsened. I guess he notices my hand trembling.

He bites his lip while I raises my head and leans back. Blood comes out of the left corner of my mouth. I am shivering. Mah is shivering either.

"When did it happen?" his voice shivers too.

I cannot fathom why he seems severely concerned and even furious.

"The exact second does not matter," I tell him softly and slowly.

He didn't hear the gunshot, neither did I. I just felt it. I felt the immense pain down my ribs.

"Stay well, my friend," I say with difficult, "You will make it. Only you is strong."

"No!" he hisses. I really don't understand why he seems extremely troubled.

"I shall go with you,"

I don't understand.

"Why?" I ask.

He looks at me in the eye and says, "I am you."

I feel absolutely nothing. Little is going in my mind. I am looking at him with sleepy eyes.

He gives the thug one final glance. I see blood dripping out of the left corner of his mouth. Down his ribs, on a spot corresponding to my wound, I see blood.

This time too I have not heard the gunshot. But I have seen the bullet striking him on that spot.

"What is the last thing you wish to do or say?" He asks while leaning back. His breathe intensifies.

"I want to make a song," I mumbles, "A last song."

At this moment, a clean, sad song starts replacing the People gonna die, which has been on loop. I am not certain if it is my imagination or reality.

"I have always known, I am a lowly man," I starts to sing along the piano instrumental song, "I have always known, I am a weak man."

I realizes it is getting default to sing and think. Extremely difficult to form words, extremely difficult to form tones.

Extreme fear and grief fall upon me.

I have to make this last song. I will make this song. Mourning can also be singing, right?
