Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Chapter 6: Awakening the Master

The storm above the mountains of Eryndor roared with unrelenting fury. Lightning split the sky, illuminating jagged cliffs, mist swirling like ghosts through the peaks. Deep within a cliffside cavern, Master Li hovered, suspended by the currents of his own qi. Energy burst around him in jagged arcs of gold, silver, and violet, shaking stone and earth alike.

In his mind, a memory clawed its way back — a battlefield of centuries past. Flames consumed villages, the ground tore open under titanic clashes, and the air vibrated with unleashed qi. His own voice had echoed across the ruin, commanding techniques that tore through armies:

"Xuan Tian Burst!"

Golden waves surged from his palms, colliding with dark, corrupted qi. Rocks shattered. Fire leapt into the air. Even the wind itself twisted under the assault. Every strike was precise, every motion deliberate, every energy pulse a perfect storm of mastery. Yet even victory could not erase the faces of those lost — comrades, innocents, mistakes that lingered like chains.

"Why… why must I fail them?" he murmured, voice trembling amidst the chaos. Each heartbeat carried centuries of regret. Techniques — Phoenix Wing Strike, Dragon Soul Roar, Heaven's Judgement Palm — had not been enough to save them.

Shadows darker than night swallowed the horizon. Lightning cracked endlessly. Corrupted qi pressed down like suffocating fog. Master Li unleashed Celestial Tempest Palm, Thunderclap Dragon Roar, Starfall Judgement, yet the darkness persisted. A scream tore from him — raw, primal, desperate.

And then, cutting through the nightmare, a voice rang clear:

"Master Li! I have passed!"

The cavern shook. Master Li's eyes snapped open, qi erupting in instinctive reaction. Rocks splintered, the air shrieked, energy spiraling outward like a storm incarnate.

At the base of the cliffs stood Mykel Cassian Voss, calm and poised. His cloak trailed like smoke, his eyes unblinking. Even at seven, his presence carried weight, drawing the storm around him into a subtle harmony.

"You…" Master Li breathed, pulse still racing. "You truly… understand it."

Mykel stepped forward, still and deliberate, letting his senses sweep the mountains, the forest, even the remnants of the storm above. He had refined the herbs. He had noted the strange currents. He had moved through the forest, facing monsters and energies far beyond ordinary reach.

"You have grown," Master Li said, awe threading his voice. "Beyond what I imagined… even prophecy cannot contain it."

Mykel inclined his head lightly. "Every moment is practice," he said. "Every breath, every movement, every pulse of energy… matters."

The storm above mirrored the tension below. Lightning crackled as if echoing his words. A deep roar shattered the quiet — a monstrous surge of corrupted qi erupted from the cliffs, claws gouging the stone.

Master Li's voice rang out, commanding and sharp: "Azure Dragon Strike!"

A serpentine dragon of pure azure qi sprang from his palms, colliding with the beast in a thunderous eruption. Rocks flew. Air split. The creature staggered, its core glimmering under the strike.

Mykel moved like water through a storm, qi flowing through roots, stones, and air currents. A subtle pulse nudged the monster into the path of Master Li's attack. Its balance faltered. Mykel tapped its core, siphoning energy into himself — refining, not wasting, every fragment.

The creature fell, defeated but alive. The storm calmed. Even the mountains seemed to breathe. Master Li exhaled, remnants of his nightmare fading. Isolation had strengthened him, but through Mykel, a new potential stirred — a path he could not walk alone.

A rustle echoed from the forest edge. Seraphina, the girl from the eastern forest, stepped forward, her dark hair flowing, eyes sharp, stance poised. Though only seven, she carried the same grace and precision Mykel had noted in their first encounter.

Master Li gestured toward her. "She has observed your growth from afar. Seraphina will accompany you when the time comes." His voice was calm but weighty. "Your path must extend beyond these mountains. You will need to experience the world, gather energy, and face challenges I cannot solve for you. She will not lead you — she will walk with you."

Seraphina inclined her head, eyes steady. "I wish to learn, as you do," she said softly. "And I will not hinder your path."

Mykel glanced at her briefly. He understood. Her presence was intentional, Master Li's design — a companion, an ally, someone whose path was intertwined with his own.

Master Li turned back to the mountains, voice low but resolute. "The next phase will take you to the Eastern Sect. There, your cultivation will accelerate. Danger waits everywhere, but so does opportunity. The world is your training ground."

Mykel looked at the peaks, the forests, and the distant horizon. He did not smile, did not hesitate. His heart, though young, carried the weight of responsibility. "I understand."

The sun dipped behind jagged cliffs, painting the sky in molten gold. Mykel and Seraphina remained, watching the storm settle and the mountains breathe. The world was vast, full of currents, forces, and unseen threats. Together, they would move forward, learning, growing, and enduring — not as prince and forest girl, but as partners bound by purpose and the promise of immortality.

Master Li's gaze softened, a rare hint of emotion in centuries of discipline. The nightmare had not fully ended, but the boy's mastery and the girl's potential gave him hope. One day, Mykel would surpass even him — if the world allowed it.

The wind whispered through the trees. Far beyond the cliffs, unseen eyes watched, currents shifting, testing, measuring. The journey had only begun.
