Chapter 8 - ch 2

**Chapter 2**

Sylas kept his head down as he moved through the hallway, shoulders brushing against backpacks and elbows. The taste of Ms. Harper's skin still clung to his lips no matter how many times he wiped them on his sleeve. His hands felt foreign, like they belonged to someone else now. Every time he blinked he saw the slow rise of her chest under that pale blue lace, the way her nipple had tightened under his thumb even though the rest of the world had been perfectly still.

He told himself it was a one-time thing. A test. Nothing that needed repeating.

The lie lasted until fourth period.

Gym was mandatory for seniors, and today Coach Ramirez had them doing partner stretches on the bleachers. Sylas ended up paired with a girl named Brooke Callahan—eighteen like him, captain of the volleyball team, married already to her high school sweetheart who'd graduated last year. She wore the standard navy shorts and gray tank top, but the fabric stretched across her chest in a way that made it hard to look anywhere else. Her blonde ponytail swung as she laughed at something her friend called from across the gym floor.

"Left leg first, Stilinski—wait, Whitaker, right?" she corrected herself, flashing an easy smile. "New guy. Try to keep up."

They sat facing each other on the mat, legs extended, soles of their feet pressed together. Brooke leaned forward to grab his hands and pull him into the stretch. Her grip was warm and confident. Sylas felt that crystalline pressure behind his eyes again, the power humming like a second pulse.

*Just to see if it works outside the classroom,* he thought. *One quick look. That's all.*

He pushed.

The gym noise vanished. The squeak of sneakers, the thud of basketballs, the coach's whistle—everything froze mid-motion. Brooke's smile was locked in place, her green eyes bright and open, fingers still wrapped around his. A bead of sweat hung on her collarbone, suspended halfway down toward the neckline of her tank top.

Sylas exhaled shakily and stood. The mat didn't even creak under his weight. He walked a slow circle around her, studying the way her shorts had ridden up when she leaned forward, exposing the smooth line of her thighs. Her chest strained against the gray fabric with each frozen breath. He crouched behind her first, hands sliding up her back under the tank top, feeling the heat of her skin and the tight muscles from years of volleyball. When he reached her sports bra he slipped his fingers beneath it, lifting the elastic until both breasts spilled free.

They were fuller than Ms. Harper's, heavier in his palms. He rolled her nipples between thumb and forefinger, watching them darken and stiffen. A low groan escaped him. He moved around to her front, straddling the mat so he could lean in and take one into his mouth, sucking hard while his free hand pushed between her thighs, rubbing her through the thin nylon of her shorts. The fabric grew damp under his fingers. He kept going, working two fingers against her until the material was soaked, then slid them beneath the leg band to touch her directly. She was slick, warm, and completely unresponsive except for the slow, steady heartbeat he could feel when he pressed his palm flat against her.

He lost track of how long he stayed there—licking, squeezing, fingering her frozen body while the rest of the gym hung in perfect silence. When the pressure in his own shorts became unbearable he stood, opened his fly, and stroked himself fast and rough, aiming at her chest. The release hit him so hard his vision whited out. Thick ropes landed across her collarbones, the upper swell of her breasts, and one stray line across her still-parted lips.

Reality snapped back into focus the moment he finished cleaning her.

Brooke blinked once, twice. Her hands were still outstretched where they'd been holding his. She slowly drew them back, pressing her thighs together with a small, confused shift of her hips. The front of her tank top was perfectly dry again—he'd wiped every trace away with the towel from his gym bag and straightened her clothes exactly as they'd been. But her cheeks were flushed deep red, and her nipples were visibly hard against the fabric.

"You okay?" Sylas asked, voice cracking slightly.

She stared at him for a long second, something unreadable flickering behind her eyes. Then she gave a tight smile that didn't reach them.

"Yeah. Just… got a weird chill or something." Her voice was huskier than before. She touched the side of her neck where his mouth had been, then dropped her hand like she'd caught herself doing something suspicious. "Let's just finish the set."

They finished the stretches in silence. Brooke kept stealing glances at him when she thought he wasn't looking. She crossed her arms over her chest more than once, and when Coach blew the whistle for laps she practically bolted onto the track.

Sylas ran behind her, watching the way her ponytail bounced, wondering why his stomach felt like it was full of ice.

The rest of the school day became a blur of stolen moments.

In the cafeteria line he froze time again, this time on the lunch lady—Mrs. Delgado, mid-forties, married with two kids in college. While the entire lunchroom stood like statues he pulled her into the back storeroom, bent her over a stack of canned goods, and fucked her from behind with short, frantic thrusts. He came inside her, then spent nearly ten full minutes (real time, he guessed) carefully cleaning every drop that tried to leak down her thigh, repositioning her panties and pants, even brushing a stray hair from her face. When he restarted time she startled so hard she dropped her ladle into the mashed potatoes.

"Shit," she muttered, voice unsteady. Her hand drifted to her lower stomach for half a second before she caught herself and plunged the ladle back into the tray. She didn't look at Sylas once as she served him, but her ears stayed pink for the entire lunch period.

By the time the final bell rang, he had used the power four more times—once on a senior girl named Maya in the library stacks (he'd made her suck him while she was frozen, then wiped her lips clean and put her book back in her hands), once on the young guidance counselor who was six months pregnant and wearing a loose sundress, and twice on the same married receptionist at the front office because he couldn't stop thinking about the way her wedding ring had looked wrapped around him.

Each time he was meticulous. Every button, every strand of hair, every drop of evidence erased. He believed he was invisible during those pauses. A ghost moving through a painting.

He had no idea they were watching him the entire time.

Elena Harper sat in her empty classroom long after the last student left, door locked, blinds drawn. Her hands trembled as she unbuttoned her blouse again and stared at her own breasts in the small mirror she kept in her desk. The skin still felt warm where his mouth had been. She could still feel the exact path his tongue had taken, the way he'd sucked hard enough to leave faint marks that had faded before she could even check. She remembered every second.

And she remembered the new boy—Sylas—sitting in the back row with guilt written across his face afterward.

She didn't know how he was doing it. Some kind of ability? A drug? Technology? All she knew was that when the world stopped, she didn't. None of them did, apparently. Brooke had cornered her after gym with wide eyes and a whispered "Something really fucked up just happened to me." Mrs. Delgado had called her during lunch in a shaking voice. They were comparing notes in a group text that now had seven participants, all women, all silent about it in public because what the hell could they actually say? "A senior boy stopped time and fingered me and I came but I can't prove it"?

Elena closed her eyes and buttoned her blouse again. Her thighs pressed together involuntarily. She hated how her body had reacted, hated that part of her had been shamefully, wetly curious even while it happened. She wasn't going to tell him. Not yet. Not until she understood what he was.

Sylas drove the old Jeep that had come with this new life back to the house on Maple Drive. The place still felt like someone else's home—too neat, too many framed photos of people he didn't remember meeting. When he stepped through the front door the smell of baking cookies hit him like a wall.

His stepmother, Vanessa Whitaker, was in the kitchen wearing an apron over a fitted blouse and jeans that hugged her hips. She was thirty-six, stunning in that effortless way some women managed after having kids, with dark wavy hair and full lips currently curved in a smile. She'd married his "father" four years ago. Sylas had apparently inherited her as part of the teleport package. She turned when she heard him, wiping flour on her apron.

"Hey, stranger. How was the first full week? You survived, I see."

Her voice was warm, teasing. She crossed the kitchen and pulled him into a quick hug. Her breasts pressed softly against his chest for a moment, and the scent of vanilla and sugar made his head swim. The power surged so strongly he almost froze her right there in the doorway.

Instead he pulled back, muttering something about homework, and escaped upstairs.

His room overlooked the backyard. He dropped his bag, locked the door, and sat on the edge of the bed with his head in his hands. The guilt lasted maybe ninety seconds before the memory of Brooke's soaked shorts and Mrs. Delgado's soft moans while frozen replaced it. His cock hardened again almost painfully.

Downstairs, Vanessa continued humming as she pulled a tray from the oven. She hadn't missed the way Sylas had looked at her just now. The same look Brooke had described in the group chat an hour earlier. The same one Elena Harper had seen in third period.

Vanessa's fingers tightened around the oven mitt. She wasn't afraid exactly. She was angry. And curious. And something else she refused to name.

Later that evening after dinner, Sylas waited until the house was quiet. Vanessa had gone to take a shower; he could hear the water running. His stepsister Claire—twenty-one, home from college for the week—was downstairs watching television. She was taller than Vanessa, lean and athletic, with the same dark hair but cut in a sharp bob. She had a habit of wearing tiny sleep shorts and oversized hoodies with nothing underneath. Sylas had noticed that earlier.

He crept down the hall to the master bathroom door. The power felt louder now, like it wanted to be used. He pushed.

The water stopped mid-stream. Droplets hung glittering in the air like crystals. Vanessa stood under the showerhead completely naked, one leg raised as she'd been shaving her calf. Water beads clung to her heavy breasts and the trimmed patch of hair between her legs. Her wedding ring caught the light even though the lights themselves were frozen.

Sylas stepped into the shower fully clothed and dropped to his knees. He pressed his face between her thighs, licking her slowly, thoroughly, sliding his tongue inside her while his hands gripped her ass. She tasted clean and slightly sweet from the body wash. He sucked on her clit until his jaw ached, then stood and slid himself into her in one smooth thrust. The frozen heat of her body was unreal. He fucked her standing up, water droplets exploding around them every time his hips snapped forward. When he came he stayed buried deep, pulsing, then carefully withdrew and used the handheld showerhead on low to rinse her thoroughly. He dried her with a towel, positioned her exactly as she'd been, even replaced the razor in her fingers at the correct angle.

Time resumed.

Vanessa jolted, nearly slicing her calf. She dropped the razor and caught the wall, breathing hard. A soft, involuntary moan slipped out before she could stop it. She stared at the shower curtain, eyes wide, then looked down at her own body. Her nipples were tight. Her pussy throbbed with aftershocks she couldn't explain. She touched herself cautiously and felt the ghost of an orgasm still echoing.

"Jesus Christ," she whispered.

Upstairs, Sylas lay on his bed staring at the ceiling, heart thundering, already wondering who he would visit next.

Down the hall, Claire paused her show and frowned at the ceiling as if she could sense the shift in the air. She wasn't part of the growing group text yet.

But she would be.
