Xander's POV
The white wolf staggered back as three crimson gashes opened across her jaw. I pushed my advantage, sensing weakness. Lyra shook her enormous head, blood mixing with her muzzle until it painted a twisted pink snarl. Scarlet drops spattered the forest floor beneath her paws.
She snorted once through her nostrils, then launched herself directly at me.
I barely twisted away from her attack, whirling to strike back when her powerful jaws clamped onto my rear leg. The bone shattered with a sharp crack that rang through the woods. Blazing agony raced up my spine like electricity. I screamed and hit the ground hard.
She'd completely destroyed my leg.
