Lyra's POV
"How many days does this hunt typically go on?" I asked, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice.
"Until someone finally captures you," Poppy answered matter-of-factly. "The previous year's hunt dragged on forever. Maybe four days total?"
I pressed my palms against my tired eyes before collapsing backward onto my mattress. This situation was going to be absolutely miserable. When I glanced over at Poppy, she had mirrored my position, offering me a melancholy smile.
"Maybe surrendering to them wouldn't be the end of the world?"
I shifted my gaze away from her toward the bland ceiling above. It would be catastrophic once my true identity as the Princess came to light. Vivienne would face public humiliation, and I couldn't fathom the level of mortification Xander and Ash would endure. The mere thought of their inevitable fury sent chills down my spine.
