Chapter 2 - Old Book

"Old man, why are you here?"

Lin Feng was stunned as he saw the god who had just scammed him.

"I gave you a lord system with extreme difficulty by mistake so I wanted to stop you from binding but it seems I was too late," the old man explained wryly.

"You are a god, aren't you?! Why are you making so many mistakes?!" Lin Feng was furious.

You first killed me for no reason and now have given me a life with extreme difficulty. Why don't you just kill me again?

"Ahem. I am getting older so it might be the reason. Anyway, here, take this book of swords and magic; it will help you overcome the difficulties," the old man replied, giving a thick, worn-out old book.

It didn't look like anything that could help him with difficulties but more like it would help him pass his life by reading it.

Lin Feng wanted to curse but the old man came like a shooting star and disappeared like the wind.

Are you really a god?

He questioned with indignation before shaking away his thoughts and staring at the old book.

The system didn't seem to be useful and he didn't know anything about this world. He hoped there was something inside that could help him.

Thinking of this, he flipped the book cover.

[Book of Swords and Magic]

[Current Owner: Lin Feng]

"Huh? Did that old man write my name on it?" Lin Feng was stunned as he saw the first page.

However, he didn't think too much and flipped to the next page.

"How to cast basic magic, how to use basic sword moves…"

He continued to read the contents and was surprised to see there were even alchemy techniques, blacksmithing techniques, archery moves, and so on.

Seeing all of this, he became happy, thinking he would become a jack-of-all-trades like the main characters in fantasy novels.

Nevertheless, it didn't take too long and his happiness was destroyed.

"Damn you, old man! Why does this book contain only basic magic? Where are the advanced ones? Can't you just write it on the blank pages? Or did you forget that?" he cursed loudly.

But there was no one to hear him.

Suppressing his anger, he once again observed his surroundings.

The bad news was that he was in wilderness but the good news was it didn't look like he was too deep inside.

There was no hesitation; he decided to get out of the forest as soon as possible. He also hoped to find a city or village to stay in, but seeing that there was no trace of human activity nearby, he knew it was just his wish.

As for building his house and founding his territory? He wanted to but it would be bad if the land here belonged to some kingdom.

It didn't take too long and he exited the wilderness. What greeted him was an open green land.

There were trees, birds, and small animals roaming everywhere. However, there was still no trace of human activity and from the looks of it, the green land was surrounded by dense forest and mountains from all directions.

Which meant he was stuck here.

Suppressing his urge to curse, Lin Feng first looked around. There were no monsters nearby, or at least he couldn't see them.

However, it didn't mean he was safe so he decided to see if he could cast magic first. This was also his only reliance; if the old man scammed him with a fake book, then he might as well stop living.

Casting away his thoughts, he opened the old book and followed instructions to cast magic. There was nothing difficult; all he needed to do was chant the specific incantation for the desired spell while concentrating his mana.

He did not know what mana was before but after arriving in this world, he could feel and control it.

There was no hesitation; he took a deep breath and started chanting.

"Flame, not as chaos but as will—shape yourself to my design."

Whoosh!

After a simple incantation, a pale blue flame appeared on his palm.

Seeing this, a surge of excitement spread through his body and he almost thanked the old man for sending him to such a fantasy world.

However soon he shook his head, casting away all his excitement.

Although he could use magic now, it didn't mean he was strong; furthermore, there were more important things to worry about, such as his basic needs like food and shelter.

"Let's build a house first," Lin Feng muttered to himself.

As for finding a way out of the wilderness? He didn't dare to think, not to mention the night was approaching so he wasted no time and proceeded towards the nearby trees.

"Wind, cast away formlessness—become my blade."

Swoosh!

The incantations were a little chunibyo-type; however, they worked great, helping him chop down the trees.

If there was something missing, then it was the spell of the item box. Thinking of this, he cursed the old man again for not giving him advanced magic spells.

A pity there was no review portal; if there was, he would definitely complain and give zero stars to the old man.

Swoosh! Bang! Swoosh! Bang!

The numbers of trees around him become less and less. Only when he thought it was enough did he stop.

After which he used a body-strengthening spell to transport the wood to his desired location.

He wasn't a survival expert but from what he learned from the internet, he knew it was better to build a house on higher ground. He wasted no time and started placing the chopped wood as a base first.

After which was a wall and roof. This was a bit harder, as he didn't know how to set them up, not to mention he wasn't using any nails.

Nonetheless, after trying for a few minutes and with the help of magic, he finally finished building a shabby wooden house.
