Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: “Experimental Subject” X and X “Monster”

In the blink of an eye, countless thoughts had already turned over in Kisho's mind.

Fortunately, all of this only lingered in his heart for an instant. His sudden stiffness did not draw Roy's attention.

—Roy's gaze had been fixed on those two prisoners the entire time.

After having their jaws seized and being force-fed the medicine, the two men began to convulse all over a few minutes later.

"Give me… give me!!"

"I want more… hurry! Aaaah!!"

Their struggles gradually turned hysterical, their eyes splitting wide.

The wounds all over their bodies also split open as they struggled without restraint.

The other four people in the room either watched with indifferent expressions or with faces full of interest.

One step forward was hell; one step back was a demon admiring a painting of hell.

Five minutes later, blood stained the floor red, and the two people rolling on the ground fell silent.

After that, two thugs stepped forward to check, then spoke calmly:

"Dead. Bit his tongue and committed suicide."

"This one too."

"Oh." Roy was equally calm. "Then throw them to the experimental subjects as food."

After saying that, he looked toward Kisho again.

"Mr. Noah, what do you think?"

"Nothing interesting." Kisho replied coldly.

Even though he had been used this time, now was not the time to return this resentment.

He met Roy's gaze. "Honestly, this kind of thing might work on other kids."

He poured his anger and unwillingness into his words, responding with a disdainful, contemptuous tone to this scum who treated human lives like grass:

"But did you forget that I came out of Meteor City?"

Hearing this, Roy put on a suddenly enlightened smile. "That's true."

"Since Mr. Noah doesn't like this, let's go back."

There was a note of threat and provocation in his voice.

"Next time before bringing you here, I'll prepare something more interesting."

Kisho returned the smile, brushed past him, and walked toward the door.

"Sure. I'll be waiting to see it."

After Kisho turned away, Roy withdrew his smile and ordered the two thugs,

"Clean it up."

The two bent down. "Yes."

Roy himself no longer paid any attention to the room. He stepped out the door and, after a few strides, caught up behind Kisho.

"It's better not to wander around. Staying behind me is safer."

He reached out and pressed a hand on Kisho's shoulder, revealing a meaningful expression.

"Safe in every sense."

Kisho's steps paused slightly.

"You can't blame me for that. Blame yourself for being too slow."

"Waiting a bit doesn't hurt." Roy said, like a host joking with a guest.

"Oh, right." His gaze swept over the tightly shut doors lining both sides of the corridor as he hospitably invited his guest. "Do you want to take a look at the other rooms?"

"No need—"

Before Kisho could finish his cold refusal, his expression suddenly changed. He darted aside, narrowly avoiding a drop of liquid falling from above—

"Plop."

It was a drop of yellowish, rancid liquid, giving off a foul stench.

The instant it hit the metal floor, the ground let out a sizzling sound. Within just a few seconds, a small corroded pit appeared where it touched.

Kisho's face darkened. He slowly raised his head and looked toward the ceiling.

A monster with human limbs and facial features—though it was unclear whether it could still be called "human"—was clinging to the ceiling.

Its limbs were twisted at strange angles. From a thin, elongated neck hung a head twisted a full one hundred and eighty degrees, looking down toward the floor with difficulty.

Around the monster's slender neck was a collar, smeared with some unknown liquid—probably blood.

It stared at the two humans below, tilting its head and opening its crimson mouth wide.

That drop of liquid had flowed from its mouth and fallen onto the floor.

Kisho: "…"

He had underestimated the diversity of species. What on earth was this thing?

He didn't even know how it had managed to drag four long chains with broken ends and still appear silently above his head.

The monster was clearly capable of Nen, and its Zetsu had deceived everyone here.

"…What's going on?!"

The moment Roy saw the monster, his stunned expression turned into barely restrained fury.

"Where are the guards? Letting an experimental subject escape like this—are they courting death?!"

Kisho heard hurried footsteps approaching from the distance.

"Experimental subject…"

Hearing what Roy said, his expression turned icy cold, and for a moment he could barely suppress the killing intent in his heart.

In the end, what he had underestimated was not species diversity, but human nature.

But Kisho had no time to deal with these scum right now.

Because he could feel that his presence had already been locked onto by that monster.

He instantly understood: this monster was coming straight for him.

—Its eyes reflected his body completely, empty and lifeless, yet filled with inevitable determination.

Those eyes were exactly the same silver-blue as his own—or rather, as Noah's.

"Was it because the moment Noah appeared in that room just now… it sensed him?"

"Or had it already noticed me from the moment I stepped into this underground laboratory?"

Kisho speculated, but before he could reach a conclusion, the monster's figure abruptly vanished from where it stood.

An extreme flash of cold light—

The triangular spike in Kisho's hand barely grazed the monster's throat, forcing it back as it reached toward him with abnormally sharp claws.

When one strike failed, the monster swiftly adjusted its posture. In the blink of an eye, the next wave of attack aimed at Kisho arrived—

With a loud "bang!", fist and claws collided heavily.

"Rip—"

Wind element Nen poured into the triangular spike, which appeared in Kisho's other hand at a speed too fast to see.

Cold light flashed in the youth's eyes. Holding the vicious weapon in a reverse grip, he pressed it against the monster's arm and slashed fiercely—

The sharp edge scraped across the monster's dark-red arm, which looked as if its skin had been stripped away, producing a harsh sound like a knife scratching glass.

That wasn't the sensation of flesh and blood at all—it was like cutting into sheet metal, even sparking with dazzling flashes.

Kisho's expression changed. He hadn't been able to break through this thing's defense!

"Hiss… waaaah!!!!"

Provoked by the prey in its eyes, anger flashed through the monster's gaze. The muscles in its limbs bulged suddenly as it leaped forward—

Kisho watched its movement closely. At the same instant, he twisted his body, kicked off the wall behind him, and also leapt upward using the force.

In midair, he grabbed the half-length chain on the monster's wrist and yanked hard, then smashed it—monster and chain together—heavily down onto the ground.

With a loud "boom!"

The moment the monster hit the ground, Kisho descended from above as well, stepping down hard on it and forcing the struggling creature back to the floor.

"…Ah! Waaaah!!"

The monster opened its mouth and spat a huge mouthful of liquid at Kisho.

Kisho countered smoothly, hurling a mass of Nen fire that collided with the liquid and evaporated it.

An indescribably pungent stench spread through the area.

Yet Kisho's expression remained calm.

He raised his hand high, the triangular spike in his grip gleaming with cold light.

"Wait—"

From the other side, Roy—who had retreated to a corner the instant the fight began—hadn't even finished shouting to stop him before Kisho's hand came down.

With a wet "thud."

The triangular spike that earlier couldn't even pierce the monster's skin now sank into its heart easily.
