Silvia sat on the edge of her bed, her ruined dress still clinging to her skin. Two servants worked quickly to clean the food from her hair and face, their movements efficient but trembling. Silvia's eyes were red, her cheeks still wet with tears that had not stopped falling since she crawled out of the dining hall.
One servant reached for a glass of water on the nightstand. Silvia snatched it from her hand and threw it against the wall. The glass shattered, and water dripped down the floral wallpaper.
"Did you enjoy seeing me in that pathetic state?" Silvia screamed. "Did you laugh when you helped me off the floor? Answer me!"
The servants did not dare to speak. They had worked for Silvia long enough to know her temper. Any word could be the wrong word. Any glance could be misinterpreted. They kept their heads down and continued their work in silence.
