Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 — Origin

The Wei Clan did not delay the law test for long.

In the Peace Era, newborns with law potential were tested early. It was not tradition—it was caution. The world had taught people one thing very clearly.

Talent decided fate.

Three months after Wei Yuan's birth, the Wei Clan's ancestral hall was opened.

The hall stood at the center of the clan grounds. Its stone pillars were old, covered with shallow carvings left behind by generations of law users. Above the altar hung a dull crystal tablet, cracked at the edges but still intact.

It was called the Law Mirror.

Its purpose was simple.

To reveal which law a person was closest to.

Wei Yuan was carried into the hall in his mother's arms. Elders gathered silently around the altar, their expressions calm but watchful. Wei Zhen stood at the front, his posture straight, his eyes fixed on his son.

"Begin," Wei Zhen said.

An elder stepped forward and placed Wei Yuan gently on the stone platform beneath the Law Mirror.

The moment Wei Yuan's back touched the stone, the air changed.

Wei Yuan felt it instantly.

The laws of the world moved.

They did not rush.

They did not react violently.

They settled.

Deep inside his body, something familiar responded. It was heavy, calm, and steady—like an invisible mountain pressing down on reality itself.

The Law Mirror trembled.

Then light appeared.

Not sharp.

Not blinding.

A deep, steady glow spread across the hall, sinking into the floor, the pillars, the walls. The carvings on the stone began to shine faintly, as if responding to something older than themselves.

The elders widened their eyes.

"This… this pressure…"

"The ground—"

The stone floor cracked slightly beneath the platform.

The glow deepened.

A symbol slowly formed in the air above the Law Mirror.

It was simple.

A downward arc.

A center point.

A force pulling everything toward it.

"Law of Origin," an elder whispered.

The hall fell silent.

Law of Origin.

Not divine.

Not demonic.

A foundational law.

A law that existed before heaven and demon were divided.

Wei Zhen's breath stopped for a moment.

Then he laughed—quietly, but with clear pride.

"Good," he said. "Very good."

He stepped forward and placed a hand on Wei Yuan's shoulder.

"I am proud of you," Wei Zhen said calmly. "With this law, you must rise. Our clan will rise with you."

His voice softened.

"I only wish your uncle were here to see this. He is away on a mission."

Wei Yuan did not react.

Inside his mind, he was already calm.

As expected, he thought.

The Law of Origin.

Created by his ancestor.

Untouched by gods.

Unclaimed by demons.

Perfect.

As the elders discussed excitedly, Wei Yuan focused inward.

This was the Law World.

In this world, strength came from laws.

Each person was born with an affinity—sometimes strong, sometimes weak. Once awakened, a law user would climb ranks step by step.

Minor Law Realm.

True Law Realm.

Dominion Law Realm.

Fictional Law Realm.

Absolute Law Realm.

Each major realm was divided further—from Rank Five to Rank One.

The higher the rank, the greater the authority.

And the greater the authority, the heavier the price.

In the early stages, cultivation demanded effort and time.

At higher stages, it demanded sacrifice.

Wei Yuan remembered this clearly.

That was how the gods controlled the world.

Not through force—but through rules.

Most people never noticed. They believed sacrifice was natural. Necessary.

Wei Yuan knew better.

This law will keep me hidden, he thought.

Origin was slow. Stable. Honest.

To the gods, it was harmless.

To Wei Yuan, it was a shield.

The light faded.

The Law Mirror returned to silence.

The elders bowed slightly.

"The Wei Clan has gained a true successor," one of them said.

Wei Zhen nodded.

"Prepare resources," he said. "From today onward, Wei Yuan will be raised as the next clan head."

No one objected.

Wei Yuan lay quietly on the stone platform, his eyes half-closed.

The Peace Era smiled upon the Wei Clan that day.

And far above the world, the heavens remained silent.

For now.
