I didn't remember the last time I had gone shopping, but when I was given the chance, it felt like unlocking a small addiction. My mother had loved shopping, and even though most memories of her were blurred, I still remembered spending time with her, walking through stores and buying little things.
After her death, the life I had known changed completely.
I turned to look at Carlton as he carried the rest of my shopping bags and couldn't help but smile. One of the reasons I hadn't restricted myself from picking whatever I wanted was because I wanted him to see exactly what he was getting himself into if he truly thought he could date me. And also because shopping was simply enjoyable — especially when I didn't have to spend my own money.
He followed me into the bedroom I was occupying. I placed the smaller bags down carefully, wincing at the slight pain in my arm.
I didn't know why, but after having the tracker removed, I felt lighter. Free.
