Chapter 7 - A Duel Against Guy

Bab 7: A Duel Against Guy

Stage Three: The Ninja Tool Throwing Test

The ninja tool throwing field was set up on an open stretch of land at the edge of the village. Ten circular targets stood twenty meters away. The center of each target was painted a bright red, while the outer targets rotated at a steady, constant speed.

The examiner was a middle-aged ninja with a thick beard. He raised a kunai and called out loudly,

"Fixed targets, five throws. Moving targets, three throws. Total score is one hundred points. Begin!"

Ebisu went first for the fixed targets. He looked nervous, adjusting his stance three times before finally throwing. Out of the five kunai he tossed, three struck the seventh ring, and two missed entirely, earning him only fifty points.

When it was Izumo's turn, he stepped behind the throwing line. His feet spread shoulder-width apart, and his right hand lifted a kunai.

The metal handle reflected a cold gleam under the sunlight. He slowly guided a thread of chakra into it, feeling the strength gather at his fingertips.

"First throw!"

Izumo flicked his wrist. The kunai cut through the air in a smooth arc. With a sharp rush of wind, it buried itself right in the center of the target. The red core of the target trembled slightly from the impact.

"Hit! Dead center!" the watching students shouted.

The second throw followed. Then the third.

Five kunai in a row struck the exact center of the target. The angle of each throw was nearly identical. The blades lined up neatly at the bullseye like a row of soldiers, creating a scene that left everyone staring in awe.

"Fixed targets, full score—fifty points!" the examiner announced. "Next, moving targets. Get ready!"

The moving targets began to spin. Their speed gradually increased. The surfaces of the targets flashed bright and dim under the sunlight as they rotated.

Izumo took a long breath. His gaze locked onto one of the moving targets.

The predictive ability granted by his Expert-level Taijutsu surged into action. He could clearly calculate the path of the target's movement.

"Now!"

Izumo raised two kunai at once with his left hand.

His wrist snapped forward. The two kunai streaked through the air like twin meteors, their curved trajectories crossing mid-flight. With two soft impacts, both blades struck the centers of two different moving targets at the exact same time.

The final throw was even more precise. Just as the fastest-spinning target was about to change direction, the kunai pierced through the air and slammed straight into its red center.

"Moving targets, forty points! Total score—ninety!" The examiner clapped his hands, his tone filled with admiration. "Your accuracy and predictive ability are excellent. If you can increase the speed of your consecutive throws, you'll be able to reach a perfect score!"

As Izumo stepped down from the field, Kotetsu immediately ran over, clutching his own kunai.

"Izumo, those two throws that hit at the same time were insane! I just tried it myself—couldn't even graze the edge of the moving target…"

Izumo smiled as he took the kunai back. But his gaze drifted toward Asuma in the distance.

Asuma had just finished his turn. All three moving targets were hit, and all five fixed targets were dead center as well. His total score was ninety-eight points.

Asuma felt Izumo's eyes on him and turned. The corner of his mouth lifted into a faint smile. He raised his kunai slightly—whether as a challenge or an acknowledgment, it was hard to tell.

Stage Four: The Trap Setup Test

The trap test field was set inside a dense forest. The ground was covered in a thick layer of dry leaves, and vines coiled around the tree trunks. It was the perfect environment for setting traps.

The examiner was a small, thin ninja. He pointed to an area about twenty square meters wide.

"You have thirty minutes to set up a chain of traps within this area. Start now!"

Izumo stepped into the forest. The dry leaves under his feet gave off a soft rustling sound.

He scanned his surroundings. His eyes settled on a large, sturdy oak tree.

Its trunk was thick, its branches wide and dense—perfect as a trigger point.

He first tied one end of a rope around the tree trunk. The other end was fastened to a sharpened wooden stake. Then he covered the rope with dry leaves, forming the first tripwire trap.

Next, directly beneath the wire, he buried a simple explosive tag and covered it with loose soil. The moment the wire was pulled, the fuse on the tag would be yanked.

Finally, he smeared a paralytic solution onto the surrounding vines. If an enemy tried to avoid the trap, they would brush against the treated vines instead.

Thirty minutes later, the examiner cautiously entered the area. He brushed aside the dry leaves and spotted the wire, his brows knitting slightly.

When he discovered the explosive tag beneath it, a flash of surprise appeared in his eyes.

And when he noticed the paralytic solution on the vines, he couldn't help but nod.

"This chain trap has a clear logical flow, a high level of concealment, and effectively restricts enemy movement."

The final score for the trap test was eighty points. The examiner looked at Izumo seriously.

"Your trap design leans toward defense and restriction rather than lethality. That's where you lost points. However, the logic behind your setup is sound. Keep training."

Stage Five: The Real Combat Application Test

The real combat test was held in the largest training field. Students and teachers formed a wide circle around the area, while Morino Ibiki himself served as the main examiner.

The rules were a continuous battle system. Each participant had to face three opponents, and the score was based on the number of victories and their overall performance.

Izumo's first opponent was Nara Maruko. The Nara clan excelled at tactics, but their Taijutsu was weak.

With the speed of his Expert-level Taijutsu, Izumo easily dodged Nara Maruko's Shadow Binding Technique. A single side kick sent his opponent flying backward. The match ended in just ten seconds.

The second opponent was Akimichi Fū. The Akimichi clan's Partial Expansion Technique made his body thick and tough, but his movements were slow.

Izumo used nimble footwork to slip behind him. With a sharp hand strike to the shoulder, Akimichi Fū groaned in pain, raised his hand in surrender, and left the arena.

After two consecutive victories, Izumo's third opponent finally appeared—

Might Guy.

Guy wore his familiar green jumpsuit. His eyes burned like blazing flames. He ran into the center of the arena and slammed his fists together, the impact echoing loudly across the field.

"Kamizuki! The day has finally come! Let's have a battle filled with passion! Youth is all about giving it everything you've got!"
