Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – Ashes of a Vow

The village of Luneria did not appear on any official map.

Too small. Too insignificant.

It was a peaceful place, inhabited by a modest people gifted with simple powers—lighting a fire, purifying water, strengthening tools. Nothing extraordinary. Nothing worthy of the world's attention.

And yet…

War broke out.

Humans against demons.

An ancient and merciless conflict. Day and night, armies clashed, and the land was soaked in blood. Villages burned. Cities fell. Thousands of lives were erased as if they had never mattered.

— The demons are approaching! a scout shouted one evening.

But it was already too late.

The Demon King had heard a rumor.

A rumor about a child… about an unusual mana… unstable… dangerous.

So he came in person.

The sky darkened abruptly. A crushing pressure fell upon Luneria. Villagers stepped out of their homes, trembling, looking up at the gigantic silhouette floating in the air.

— This… this can't be… whispered an elder.

The Demon King…

A deep laugh echoed across the village.

— So this is the insignificant village, the Demon King said, his voice tearing through the air.

— How disappointing.

Then hell descended.

Black flames rained from the sky. Houses exploded. Screams mixed with roars. Demons poured into the streets like starving beasts, slaughtering without discrimination.

Inside a burning house, a man knelt on the ground, his body scorched, his breath ragged. In front of him lay his wife, lifeless… and his son, a small boy with tear-filled eyes.

— Dad… I'm scared…

The man clenched his teeth. His mana was nearly depleted. His hands trembled.

— Listen to me, Maël, he whispered. No matter what happens… don't come out. Don't make a sound.

— Dad…

— You must live.

With his last strength, he placed his burned hand on the child's forehead.

— Concealment spell… activate.

Mana burst silently. The boy's body faded, as if erased from reality itself.

At that moment, the wall collapsed.

A demonic blade pierced the man's chest.

Blood splattered the floor.

From afar, the Demon King watched without emotion.

— No survivors, he commanded.

The village was annihilated.

In the silence of the smoking ruins, beneath the bodies of his family, Maël held his breath, eyes wide open, frozen in terror.

He did not cry.

He did not scream.

He survived.

The sun rose over a land of corpses.

The spell slowly faded.

A six-year-old boy stood up, trembling. He clutched his parents' bodies in his arms.

— Dad… Mom…

His voice broke.

He stayed there for a long time. Then, with shaking hands, he began to dig into the ground. Again. And again. Until his fingers bled. Alone, he buried his family.

The wind blew softly.

Around him, his mana stirred. Twisted.

Responded to his pain.

— I swear… he whispered, clenching his fists.

— I will kill the Demon King.

For a brief moment, mana erupted around him, shaking the air.

Then the child turned away, disappearing down the dusty road.

Eleven years later.

The fortified city of Ravelorn was under attack.

— There are too many of them! a sorcerer shouted, launching a fireball that instantly dissipated.

— The barriers are failing!

Demons climbed over the walls, laughing. Blood already flowed through the streets.

— Fall back! the captain yelled. Protect the civilians!

A massive demon crushed a mage with a single punch.

— Weak humans, it sneered.

Suddenly…

An unnatural silence fell.

A young man stood in the middle of the plaza, a dark cloak fluttering behind him. Black hair. Cold eyes.

— Who… who is that? someone whispered.

The demon burst into laughter.

— A lone human? Have you come to die with them?

The young man slowly raised his hand.

— Leave.

— What did you say?

A colossal dome of mana expanded in an instant, engulfing every demon in the area.

— That's… impossible… a sorcerer muttered.

— Crush.

The mana collapsed inward.

The demons were pulverized. The ground cracked. When the dome vanished, only lifeless bodies remained.

Silence.

— He… he killed them all…

— With a single spell…

The survivors cautiously approached.

— Thank you… thank you so much! the captain said, bowing deeply.

The young man looked at them without emotion.

— Don't thank me.

He turned away.

— The demons will return. And next time… I may not be here.

Then he vanished, as if swallowed by the air itself.

— Who was he…? someone whispered.

On the rooftop of a distant building, the young man stopped.

Maël.

His mana raged within him.

Suddenly, a voice echoed inside his mind.

— I have found you.

His eyes widened.

— That voice…

A crushing presence appeared behind him.

— The child of Luneria…

Maël slowly turned around.

A demonic figure stood there, smiling.

— The Demon King wishes to see you again.

Maël's mana exploded violently.

— Then let him come.
