Rex Pov
I woke up in complete darkness with pain shooting through my wrists. For a moment, I could not remember where I was or what had happened. Then it all came rushing back.
The forest. Freda. The dagger. Being arrested and dragged to the pack prison.
I sat up slowly and heard chains rattle. My wrists were bound in silver cuffs attached to the wall. The metal burned against my skin, leaving red marks that would probably scar.
"You are awake," a voice said from outside the cell.
I looked toward the bars and saw a guard sitting on a stool. He was watching me carefully with his hand on a weapon.
"How long was I out?" I asked. My throat was dry, and my voice came out rough.
"About six hours," the guard said. "It is evening now. Almost sunset."
Six hours. That meant I had been unconscious all afternoon. I tried to remember falling asleep, but could not. One moment I was being locked in the cell, and the next I was waking up.
