Camilla's POV...

Soon, we were back at his house—the penthouse that was more fortress than home. The cavernous silence was the first thing I noticed.

The children were gone. Their absence left a void filled only with the hum of expensive, hidden appliances and my own pounding heart.

I went straight to the wardrobe, my movements sharp and deliberate. I bypassed the comfortable loungewear, the soft sweaters. My fingers found a slip of a dress, a black gown of raw silk so thin it felt like liquid shadow against my skin. It was backless, held up by the merest whisper of straps, and it fell to mid-thigh. I didn't wear underwear.

So that leaves me and him all alone.

Yes, the maids moved like ghosts in the periphery. Yes, guards stood sentinel at every junction. But they were furniture. They didn't speak, didn't see, didn't matter.

"Lucian."

I found him in his study, a room of dark wood and cold light.
