Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Siblings' Confrontation, Unexpected Turn

In Letty's home, Dominic was staring expressionlessly at his sister, Mia, who was sitting nearby looking restless.

Mia didn't dare to meet his gaze, her eyes falling on Letty with a hint of blame.

However, Letty just gave her a helpless shrug. She had told her boyfriend that Mia was staying with her.

After finishing his work in the afternoon, Dominic had come over.

Letty saw that neither of the siblings had spoken.

But having known her boyfriend for many years, she could see his current anger from the veins that had bulged on his forehead and hadn't receded.

"Dom!" Letty had no choice but to take the initiative to ease the tension between the siblings.

"Mia isn't a child anymore; she has her own thoughts."

Dominic's cold gaze swept over Letty.

Then he asked irritably, "And then?"

"There are so many good men around me. Even if you don't choose Vince, why pick a Chinese kid?"

"Aside from having a face that looks somewhat decent, can a guy with such a frail body protect you?"

Hearing this, Mia immediately became indignant.

"Dom, your prejudice is too much."

"Hunter is much stronger than you. He kept me busy all night yesterday, lasting much longer than you and Sister Letty usually do."

Letty's face turned red, and she looked at Mia irritably.

Mia quickly realized she had spoken without thinking; after all, she was still just a girl who had recently reached adulthood.

But despite her face being flushed with shame, she continued to glare at her older brother.

"You also know I don't like Vince, so why have you always let him harass me?"

"If I hadn't grown up with you, I'd really think you and Vince were the biological brothers and I was some other family's child."

Dominic was surprised to learn that Mia seemed to have eavesdropped on his and Letty's intimate moments, but he wasn't angry.

He knew his own physical fitness and abilities better than anyone.

He didn't believe that a Chinese kid who had just reached adulthood and had a scrawny build—aside from being tall and having a good face—could be more powerful than him.

Thinking Mia was just bragging for her prospective boyfriend, a rare trace of a smile appeared on Dominic's face.

He looked at the angry Mia, his voice not as icy as before.

"I never supported or allowed Vince to harass you. It's just that he likes you, and you never clearly expressed opposition, so I didn't stop him."

"Since you don't like him, why didn't you tell him clearly?"

Mia was instantly infuriated and stood up abruptly.

However, last night had been too crazy. With the sudden exertion, she immediately felt a wave of soreness throughout her body.

She suddenly lost her strength and fell back onto the sofa.

Although she was cursing Hunter in her heart for being a beast last night,

Mia didn't intend to pass up this rare opportunity to bare her heart to her older brother.

"You think I haven't told him?"

"From the first time he pursued me two years ago until now..."

"I've rejected Vince at least fifty times."

Mia was so angry her chest was heaving, and her face grew even redder.

But now, it was a flush of anger.

She looked at the slightly frowning Dominic, her voice rising several notches: "He always uses your name, saying you support him in pursuing me."

"And more than once, he has harassed me right in front of you."

"But what were you doing when I ignored him, Dom?"

"You were laughing on the side!"

"Maybe you didn't support him, but you didn't stop him either. So Vince took your attitude as tacit permission and started harassing me even more aggressively."

"Counting Hunter this time, he has beaten people up at least seventy times because of me."

"The vast majority of them were just people who came to the coffee shop to buy a sandwich from me."

Letty had been smiling on the side, but after hearing this, she also frowned.

She suddenly realized that everything Mia said was likely true.

Her boyfriend had indeed never supported Vince's pursuit of Mia, but he truly hadn't stopped it either.

Just as Mia said, Vince had harassed her in front of them more than once.

He even picked fights with those who hit on Mia right in front of them.

And at the time, they had all treated it as a joke.

Even though most of those who hit on Mia were, as she said, just buying a sandwich from her.

When Dominic was in his teens, his father had gotten himself killed while participating in an illegal modified car race.

After coming out of prison two years later, he drove away his younger brother and raised Mia alone.

Relying on his own hands, he had carved out a name for himself in Los Angeles and even California.

If he really lacked brains, he would have been caught by the California police long ago for the dozen or so highway robberies he'd committed over the past few years.

Therefore, after Mia angrily recounted her experiences from the past few years,

Dominic quickly realized that his sister Mia was indeed tired of being harassed by Vince.

While he, Letty, and the others claimed to care for his sister,

In reality, they had indulged or even encouraged Vince to constantly harass her.

Once he understood this, even though Dominic usually maintained an expressionless poker face,

At this moment, he couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed.

His throat bobbed up and down as he swallowed repeatedly.

Clearly, he had words stuck in his throat, and they were words of apology to Mia.

But because of his pride and his authority as the big brother,

Dominic couldn't bring himself to say the words of apology to his sister.

Letty glanced at her suddenly silent boyfriend!

The two of them knew each other inside and out and had long since developed a deep understanding.

Seeing this, she immediately stepped forward and reached out to hug the angry Mia.

While using her body to block Mia's line of sight, she mouthed a hint to her boyfriend.

Dominic understood immediately and said in his usual flat tone, "Vince won't harass you anymore. I'll have him come over right now to clear things up."

"And Hunter!"

Mia's head was held by Letty, but she was still very concerned about her prospective boyfriend's safety.

Dominic nodded: "Vince should have gone to find him. Don't worry, I'll tell Vince to go easy on him."

They say an elder brother is like a father; clearly, although he didn't say it,

He was still very unhappy with that Chinese kid who dared to take away his sister's precious first experience.

"Dom!" Mia understood the meaning behind his words and was about to speak again.

She found that Letty's arms around her suddenly tightened a bit.

Then, Mia found her head pulled into Letty's embrace, sandwiched between her breasts.

As Mia was about to struggle, she heard Letty whisper to her, "If you don't want that kid to have a harder time later, it's better to let Dom vent this bit of anger now."

Hearing this, Mia stopped struggling.

However, she was still worried about Hunter.

After all, Mia had experienced Vince's savagery and brutality in the past.

A major reason why she dropped out of high school

was that back when Mia was still in school, a male classmate of the same age liked her and took the initiative to pursue her.

Vince somehow found out about this later, and as a result, he cornered and beat the kid up one day after school.

Not only did he break several of the boy's ribs, but he also deliberately rammed the boy's family car with his own, nearly causing a major accident.

In the end, the family complained to the school and reported it to the police.

On Vince's side, although Dominic helped him settle everything,

Mia suffered a lot of cold treatment and exclusion at school because of this incident.

Ultimately, she had to drop out and left the campus without graduating high school.

So, realizing that Vince might have gone to find Hunter,

Mia's heart immediately leapt into her throat.

Although Hunter had vowed to her this morning that he didn't seem to fear Vince at all,

Now Mia could only pray—pray that his mouth was as capable as he was last night.

Dominic clearly didn't know Mia's thoughts; he took out his phone and dialed Vince's number.

After a period of waiting, the call ultimately went unanswered.

So Dominic dialed again, and it wasn't until the third time that the call finally connected.

He was about to speak when he heard a woman's voice on the other end.

"This is Maxwell Private Hospital. Hello, are you a relative of this phone number's owner?"

Dominic was stunned for a moment before saying, "I'm his friend. Has something happened to Vince?"

The female voice on the other end immediately came through again: "Yes, sir."

"Your friend seems to have been attacked by an unknown person."

"When we arrived after receiving the emergency call, he was already unconscious."

"According to the hospital's diagnosis, he has seventeen fractures or breaks in his ribs, arm bones, and shoulder blades."

"At the same time, his face has also suffered severe trauma."

"If it's convenient, please help notify his family and arrange for someone to come to the hospital to visit."

"The patient is not in life-threatening danger, but the situation is nonetheless not optimistic."

"It's best to notify the insurance company and prepare for inpatient treatment."
