Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Wulong City

The night passed without incident.

Yun Wu allowed Xue Yunxue to sleep inside the tent, while he himself lay on a simple bedroll beside the campfire—an unspoken gesture of thanks for the warm bowl of soup from the night before.

The fire burned quietly.

The crackle of wood breaking apart softly pierced the vast silence of the night.

Though his eyes were closed, Yun Wu never truly slept. A wolf's instincts kept his vigilance sharp. His ears caught nearly every sound around them—the whisper of the wind, the rustling of leaves, even the soft, steady breathing coming from inside the tent.

Xue Yunxue's breaths were deep and even. She was utterly exhausted and had fallen into a heavy sleep.

Unconsciously, Yun Wu listened to that rhythm until dawn approached.

Morning arrived bathed in gentle light.

They packed their belongings in silence. There was no conversation—only brief, efficient movements. Xue Yunxue helped fold the blankets and bedrolls with practiced ease, a simple action that nonetheless made Yun Wu glance at her more than once.

That was… strange.

And completely incompatible with the Hu Shui he knew.

Xue Yunxue bit into an apple for breakfast, the crisp crack echoing clearly in the cool morning air. Even without looking up, she could feel Yun Wu's gaze on her—sharp as a laser.

His stare hadn't changed—keen, probing, never truly turning away.

From the moment she opened her eyes until now,

she hadn't been given a single second without surveillance.

Xue Yunxue took a quiet breath, pretending to remain calm.

"Sir, how should I address you?" she asked, deliberately using the question to break the awkward silence.

"Yun Wu."

He glanced at her briefly. "And what should I call you? Hu Shui… or—"

"Yunxue. Xue Yunxue!" she interrupted quickly, almost reflexively.

"You're remarkably consistent with your name," Yun Wu said coldly.

His gaze sharpened again.

"So, what were you really doing out there?"

"Nothing special. I was just traveling alone… and somehow ended up here," Yunxue replied casually, though her heart was beating faster.

"Do you have a place to live?" Yun Wu asked.

Xue Yunxue shook her head slightly. She'd planned to wander and raise her level—but now she was stuck with this stinking wolf, her leg still bound by a chain.

"So you have no home, and no idea where you're going?" Yun Wu stared at her in disbelief.

In his mind, an image formed clearly—a young, beautiful woman wandering alone in the modern Beast World, where half the land was controlled by dangerous mutants.

She would be easy prey for thugs, bandits, or even rebel factions.

"Show me your identification," Yun Wu said suddenly.

"Identification? Like… an ID card?" Xue Yunxue asked without thinking.

Is this girl stupid?

Yun Wu thought.

Without another word, he raised his wrist. The black watch there lit up, projecting a pale blue holographic screen into the air displaying his personal data and photo.

Name: Yun Wu

ID Number: 5427XXX

Age: 22

Clan: Black Wolf Human

Date of Birth: August 19, 3XXX

Status: Former War Commander

Xue Yunxue's eyes widened.

She was utterly captivated.

What incredible technology…

Even in her former world, she had never seen a computer this small—let alone one that projected data into the air.

"I don't have one," she said honestly. "So… what is that thing called?" she asked, pointing at the device on his wrist.

"Chakra Computer."

Yun Wu's tone remained flat, but a flicker of shock crossed his eyes. She didn't know even such basic technology—and she didn't possess any form of identification at all.

Was she born in the forest?

This woman truly knew nothing about the world.

"You have to get one, Sister Xue!" Moa suddenly exclaimed excitedly in her mind.

"Then… how do I buy one?" Yunxue asked curiously. Her instincts told her the device would be incredibly useful—and she wanted it badly.

Yun Wu raised an eyebrow.

Is she from the primitive era?

He reached into his storage space and tossed a similar device toward her. Xue Yunxue reflexively caught it with both hands.

"Use my old one."

"I don't use it anymore," Yun Wu added coolly.

"You can have it."

So this stupid wolf is actually pretty generous, Xue Yunxue thought inwardly.

Free items—especially good ones—were not something she would ever refuse.

Without hesitation, she accepted the watch, a faint smile forming at the corner of her lips.

Buying new things was a waste.

Since childhood, she'd lived frugally. Every coin mattered, and every choice was carefully weighed. That habit had long since become instinct.

Besides, if someone willingly gave her something, why refuse?

She tightened the device around her wrist, her fingers brushing over its surface with curiosity.

Yun Wu watched the small figure—more like a stray kitten than anything else—with an odd expression.

It was outdated junk. No one in this era would want something like that—yet she looked genuinely pleased.

"Enough fooling around," Yun Wu said coldly. "It's time to go."

"Where to?" Yunxue asked, lifting her clear, almond-shaped eyes to him.

"To my home," Yun Wu replied.

He reached for the pendant at his neck. In an instant, light flashed—and an anti-gravity vehicle materialized before them, its shape resembling a two-wheeled vehicle Yunxue recognized from her old world.

Her eyes widened.

How could something that large be stored inside a small pendant?

What an incredible world…

For a brief moment, she even thought that being stranded here might not be such a bad thing.

The vehicle was jet black with thin golden patterns along its sides. It was large enough for two riders and vaguely resembled vehicles from her former world—but the difference quickly became obvious.

It had no wheels.

It hovered in midair, blatantly defying the planet's laws of gravity.

Yun Wu leapt onto the anti-gravity vehicle with light, practiced movements.

"Get on," he ordered curtly, his tone icy.

Xue Yunxue tried to mount the vehicle, but faltered. The iron chain still wrapped around her leg—strong enough to bind an elephant—was far too heavy for her slender body.

Yun Wu glanced back. He snorted softly, dismounted, and with a swift motion removed the chain. In its place, he fastened a black metal collar around her neck—its shape disturbingly similar to a dog collar.

"With this, I can track you anytime, anywhere," Yun Wu said flatly.

"Don't try to run. And don't ever think about removing it. If you do—"

His voice turned colder.

"I'll blow your head off."

You insane wolf!

Xue Yunxue cursed inwardly. Did he really put a bomb around my neck?!

But outwardly, she wore a helpless expression. With slightly unsteady steps, she climbed onto the vehicle and sat directly behind Yun Wu.

The moment it launched forward, her body nearly flew backward. She reflexively grabbed the seat beneath her, not daring to hold onto Yun Wu's narrow, powerful waist—she feared the wolf more than falling off.

The anti-gravity vehicle shot forward at terrifying speed, covering a thousand miles in just one hour.

Soon, they arrived before a colossal city surrounded by towering, thick walls that stretched toward the sky.

Yun Wu presented his identification to the gate guards. Like old acquaintances, he exchanged a few brief words with them. Xue Yunxue barely paid attention—her entire focus was captured by the futuristic cityscape before her.

Magnificent buildings gleamed. Advanced technology was everywhere. Her mouth fell open unconsciously.

The gate guard, Sang Min—a man around thirty-five—greeted Yun Wu with admiration.

"Amazing. You always return with absolute success," he said.

"Hm," Yun Wu replied shortly. "I also brought back a new slave."

He glanced at Xue Yunxue, who was still staring in awe at the city's architecture.

Sang Min's eyes lit up.

"Wow, what a beautiful slave," he said bluntly. "Care to sell her to me?"

Despite his age, Sang Min had no partner. Seeing such a stunning girl immediately stirred his greed.

Yun Wu's expression hardened instantly.

"She's not for sale," he said coldly, his tone heavy with warning.

After completing the entry procedures, Yun Wu brought Xue Yunxue into Wulong City.

They mounted the anti-gravity vehicle once more and sped toward a quieter corner of the city.

Along the way, towering skyscrapers rose on either side, massive shopping centers dotting the streets. People walked leisurely, as if this world were entirely safe and prosperous.
