Rex opened his eyes in the dark room before the first light of dawn had broken. Lily was still asleep next to him.
Her breathing was deep and steady, and she was completely worn out from the night's activities in a way that only comes from being very satisfied and emotionally drained.
For a moment, Rex lay still, taking stock of how he felt and how the room looked. The closet door was still closed, just like it had been when he left it a few hours earlier after killing Marcus.
The noises coming from behind it had stopped around midnight. That was to be expected, but the body could only do so much, and Marcus had reached his limit.
"Ah shit... I have to ditch the body somewhere else, but... no one fucking cares if a bandit dies." Rex sighed. "But still... if I let it stay there, it's going to smell so fucking bad."
Rex carefully sat up so as not to wake Lily. He got dressed in the dark like someone who had done it many times before.
