School felt louder after the trip .
Not in Noise----but in glances, half smiles, and things left unsaid .
Christopher noticed it the moment he walked through the gates .
The way people talked over each other.
The way nothing had changed----yet everything had.
Ethan caught up with him near the lockers.
"So ," he said casually, " back to reality. "
Christopher nodded. " Yeah. "
But reality felt unfamiliar.
Across the corridor. Zia walked in with her friends.
She looked the same ---- confident, posture, calm expression---but something in her eyes had shifted.
Their gazes met.
This time ,neither looked away immediately.
Jason appeared moments later. Senior jacket
Slung over his shoulder. hand setting possessively at Zia's back .
He learned in,whispering something meant only for her.
Christopher's chest tightened before he understood why.
Leo noticed.
"Don't, " Leo said quietly, walking beside him.
"Don't what ?"
" Don't pretend you didn't feel something on that trip."
Christopher stayed silent.
In class ,sofee laughed louder than usual.
answering questions she didn't need to.
When Christopher passed by her desk, she didn't look up.
That hurt more than he expected .
During lunch ,Zia sat with Jason and the senior group. She smiled, nodded, played her role perfectly.
But when Jason's hand tightened around her wrist as the stood up,her smile faltered.
" You're distracted again ," he said under his breath.
" people notice. "
Zia pulled her hand free gently.
" I just need air ."
She walked away before he could respond.
Outside, near the back steps, Christopher stood alone.
Not hiding.
Just....breathing.
Zia stopped when she saw him.
Neither of them spoke at first .
Then she said softly. " Does it feel strange to you too ?
He nodded. " like we came back different people. "
She smiled---small ,real.
" Yeah. "
Footsteps echoed.
They stepped apart instinctively.
Jason watched from the hallway, expression unreadable.
Leo watched too, heart heavy but steady .
The pause was over .
Now come the consequences.
And this time ----
There was no pretending nothing had changed.
