The first thing Huang Shi saw when he opened his eyes was the rubble and the dust surrounding him, as well as a massive silvery-white shield that blocked the massive amount of boulders currently trying to crush him into meat paste.
What the fuck?!
He quickly stood up and saw a person look back at him with those deep black eyes, speaking in an icy voice.
"It seems the princess has finally woken up. Your timing is just perfect; if you didn't wake up just now, I would have destroyed this entire damn mountain."
Huang Shi shivered. He looked up at the stone cavern, noticing that none of the lightning spirit crystals that were present when they entered were still there, but he chose to ignore it.
"What the hell happened? Did we get attacked?"
Bai Xinyue didn't even bother to respond to his frantic question. Her eyes remained fixed on the crumbling exit, cold and focused.
Without waiting for a second more, she reached out and grabbed him by the hem of his clothes with her left hand, hoisting him up as if he weighed nothing at all. In that same heartbeat, a silver bamboo sword suddenly appeared in her right hand, seemingly pulled from thin air.
The bamboo sword looked completely ordinary at first glance—just a simple, polished piece of wood with a pale, silvery tint. And yet, the more Huang Shi stared at it, the more his instincts screamed in terror.
He felt a sharp, stinging sensation across his skin, as if tiny little wounds were about to appear all over his body. It was as if he were being surrounded by thousands of invisible blades, all reacting to the mere presence of that wooden weapon.
What the fuck is happening? What the hell is that sword?
He didn't have any more time to ask questions or process the fear. All of a sudden, Bai Xinyue raised her right hand high into the air. The movement was smooth and effortless, devoid of any flashy preparation. Then, she performed a simple, clean downward slash.
WHOOSH!
A massive, silvery-white arc of light erupted from the edge of her sword. It wasn't just a physical strike; it was a wave of pure, concentrated sword intent that dashed forward with unstoppable momentum.
The air hissed as the sword light collided with the wall of debris. It sliced through the massive boulders ahead of them—stones that weighed tons and had long since blocked the cave entrance—as if they were made of soft butter.
BOOM!
The sound was deafening as the boulders were split perfectly in half, exploding outward from the pressure of the strike. In an instant, a jagged opening appeared through the mountain of rubble.
Even through the thick clouds of rising dust, Huang Shi could see a sliver of bright light at the end of the tunnel. It was a clear sign that if they took this chance to run—if they were fast enough to outpace the collapsing ceiling—they could finally escape this deathtrap.
But how the fuck are we supposed to reach the entrance in such a short amount of time? That's like almost 50 met—
WHOOSH!
Without a moment's hesitation, Bai Xinyue dragged him with her, dashing straight toward the entrance just as the sword cut had done its job. In the blink of an eye, they were already out of the mountain.
She was fast—so fast that it seemed even gravity had a hard time taking them both captive. The moment they finally escaped the stone cavern, the entire mountain once again started to crumble, as more rocks took the place of the space created by the sword slash.
BOOM!
A massive amount of debris and dust erupted in the surroundings. Huang Shi, who had never even had time to savor the new strength he just received from his breakthrough, began to tremble. All of the arrogance he previously felt because of the awakening of his second sun seemed to disappear as if the world were mocking him.
Fuck... alright, seems I really can't afford to relax in this damn world.
Huang Shi thought that if it was him in that exact same situation, surrounded by falling rocks probably millions of pounds in weight, he probably would have died and been buried under the rocks for all time.
Bai Xinyue, on the other hand, didn't seem to have his same reservations. She once again dropped him face-first into the ground, causing him to eat a mouthful of dust for the second time since they had met.
"Damn it, Bai Xinyue! That's the second time you did that?! Are you actually doing it on purpose?!"
Bai Xinyue, who didn't look like she had just sliced open a mountain, looked at him with a clearly unbothered expression as she tilted her head in innocence.
"Could it be you're actually not as smart as you say you are?"
Huang Shi's mouth twitched, but this time he chose not to respond to her taunts. Instead, he simply stood up and dusted off the dirt from his body.
"Alright, I'll let you have this one. You did do your job properly as my dao protector, and you did save us from certain death inside of that stone cavern."
Bai Xinyue stared at him for a couple of seconds. A strange silence suddenly came over the two of them as she chose not to say anything.
Huang Shi suddenly felt goosebumps all over his skin. He felt like he was once again being observed like a specimen—like a piece of meat on the chopping block, just like when they first met each other.
Damn it, what is it now? What does this woman want?!
After a few more moments, Bai Xinyue finally opened her mouth. However, the words she said were beyond anything he could have ever expected.
"What kind of heavenly physique do you have?"
