Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: An Epiphany (3)

Right when he was at the peak of his joy, a cold voice once again resounded through the room, forcing him out of his laughter.

"Is something wrong with your head? Did you suffer a cultivation backlash from failing to breakthrough? Or do you have some sort of heart demon?"

Huang Shi suddenly shivered before quickly turning around, trying to find the source of the voice, and yet he still couldn't find her. He could only grumble inwardly to himself as he once again sat back down with his legs crossed.

"Don't mind me, Young Lady Bai. I just had an epiphany."

Bai Xinyue, who was using some sort of invisibility technique and was sitting some distance away from him on another cultivation mat, was staring at Huang Shi with an odd expression.

It was like she was looking at some sort of hooligan in the flesh. In fact, she was even starting to regret agreeing with his conditions of owing him a favor.

Maybe I really should have just beaten this bastard up…

The moment Bai Xinyue had these thoughts, Huang Shi suddenly shivered as he forced himself to sit up straight before speaking in a solemn voice.

"Young Lady Bai, I can feel your bloodlust from here. You have to learn to calm down. Too much anger is bad for your liver."

The moment Bai Xinyue heard these words, her expression changed as she gritted her teeth. She once again had the urge to smack this prick to the ground and leave him to suffer his fate.

When Huang Shi realized that Bai Xinyue was choosing not to respond to him, he smirked before once again letting out a breath of air and forcing himself back to calm before closing his eyes.

All right, let's think about this for a few moments. It seems my understanding of "suns" is wrong. Maybe it's because suns work differently in the cultivation world, but from what I remember, "suns" are just giant blobs of hot gas. They are just a type of star.

But from what I can tell from what the system told me, in the cultivation world, "suns" are just massive sources of energy.

This energy can take on many different forms. It does not have to be just fire; it could be lightning, or maybe even other types of energy like ice, light, dark, and more.

This energy is known as Sunfyre. But Sunfyre does not always have to look like flames. It can take on other shapes based on the type of energy that specific sun creates.

Huang Shi's eyes started to shine as his thoughts moved faster and faster.

I have nine suns inside of me. My first sun makes a "sunfyre" of golden flames. But that does not mean my second sun has to be the same.

In fact, because I just failed to breakthrough, it seems the Nine Sun Immortal Codex wants the user of the Nine Sun Primordial Sunfyre Physique to have nine different kinds of "sunfyre qi"—one for each major cultivation realm.

This means that if I want to breakthrough into the Nascent Profound Realm and light up my second sun, I need to find a different type of Sunfyre. I think the system has made it very clear what my choice should be.

Huang Shi once again looked at the body cultivation technique the system had made for him. The Calamity Lightning Sunfyre Body needed a person to generate a hint of calamity sunfyre lightning within their body to start the tempering process; however, the reason why he did not yet start to cultivate it is because he didn't yet find the time to get in contact with lightning from the heavens.

Huang Shi thought about this problem for a while before shaking his head. Currently, he had no solutions to his current dilemma and so he stood up and spoke with a somewhat guilty voice.

"Uhh, Young Lady Bai, I have a problem."

Bai Xinyue, who had been sitting cross-legged with her eyes closed, silently cultivating herself, once again opened her eyes.

However, when she saw the look in Huang Shi's eyes, she suddenly felt a strange feeling of irritation in her heart before she spoke in a somewhat angry tone.

"What is it now?"

The moment Huang Shi heard Bai Xinyue's ice-cold voice, he shivered once again. He tried to speak in a pleading manner.

"Uhh, Young Lady Bai, can I change my first request? I promise it's related to you being my Dao protector. It's just that something happened, and I have to do this first before I can finish my breakthrough."

Bai Xinyue remained quiet, yet the temperature of the stone room suddenly dropped. All the heat from his failed breakthrough disappeared almost instantly, and a cold chill ran up his spine.

"I give you an inch and you try to take a mile. Huang Shi, do you really think I wouldn't dare to beat you up?"

Huang Shi gulped as his fear mounted. Still, he gritted his teeth and chose to be even more shameless, believing in the age-old saying that if you didn't ask, you would never receive.

"It's just... I need to get struck by lightning for a bit before I can make my breakthrough. I need you to protect me while I do that. Is that possible?"

Huang Shi expected Bai Xinyue to think for a while or to get even angrier. He even expected to get beaten up a bit for his shamelessness. Yet, unexpectedly, that is not what happened at all. The moment he finished speaking, a voice replied. It was still cold, but he felt something strange in it.

Was that… joy?

"Sure, we can do that. I know a place near here that has lightning all year round. I'll take you there."

Before Huang Shi could react, a powerful force grabbed him by his collar.

WHOOSH

The world blurred. The smell of the cave vanished, replaced by the sharp scent of a coming storm. Bai Xinyue moved with incredible speed, carrying him across the forest like a sack of grain.

A few minutes later, they arrived. The air felt heavy, and the hair on Huang Shi's arms stood up. Above them, thick black clouds pulsed with azure light.

"We're here," Bai Xinyue said, dropping him onto the hard ground.
