Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Greenwood Forest (1)

Greenwood Forest was a massive rainforest that consumed a large part of Reshi City. In fact, it was so large that the three major sects divided it into three parts and claimed it as their own territory. They did this so they could properly monopolize and divide the resources found in their respective areas.

This specific part of the Greenwood Forest was nearest to the Azure Dragon Sect and was considered their territory. However, if you went deep enough inside of the forest, you would quickly reach neutral territory—an area that was not controlled by any of the three great sects.

The reason for that was quite simple. It was because, in the middle of the forest, there were spiritual beasts at the True Profound level. These beasts were powerful enough that they were capable of fighting even the top experts of the three great sects.

Hmm... it's my first time walking around in a forest this big, even including my previous life.

Huang Shi, despite the fact that he was a transmigrator from Earth, had lived most of his life in the city. Although he occasionally traveled, he had never been in a forest this large before.

He looked around the area and found trees almost a hundred meters high. They were so big it seemed they reached the sky itself. The ground was soft and moist, and thick shrubs were everywhere. It was the textbook look of a rainforest, filled with the sounds of insects and the smell of damp earth.

Alright, let's go find some place safe to breakthrough.

Huang Shi started to walk around the area, trying to find a spot far from any predators. After a few minutes of walking, he actually found one, albeit it currently wasn't safe.

The place he found was actually a cave. It was filled with long green vines that covered the entrance, making it so that it was difficult for people—or spiritual beasts for that matter—to find out what was inside. The problem was that around the entrance, there were clear signs that something was living inside of it.

Bones of spiritual beasts surrounded the area, bleached white and scattered on the dirt. There were even animal droppings present, making the smell somewhat unbearable. Thankfully, Huang Shi wasn't the kind of person who would complain about these kinds of things.

I'm not sure what level of spiritual beast or "beasts" is living inside this cave, but I'm pretty sure at least one of them is at the Nascent Profound level.

Huang Shi squinted his eyes, his blood starting to pump faster. It was clear that he was very excited to test his strength against an actual opponent.

Alright, let's not be hasty. Let's drag out the scouts first so I can get a good glimpse of what kind of beast is inside of this place.

Huang Shi walked away from the cave and, at a safe distance, he started to make noise. He began rustling leaves and smacking the trunks of trees, trying to get the attention of the spiritual beasts inside of the cave.

After a few moments of waiting, three spiritual beasts came out. They were massive, around two meters in size, and had pale gray fur with hard scales mixed in between. Their yellow eyes scanned the trees, looking for the source of the noise. They had long teeth and sharp claws, and they looked like deadly predators.

Grayscale Wolves… they were not very powerful individually, but they were pack animals, and so they were considered one of the more dangerous kinds of spiritual beasts in the Greenwood Forest.

And I'm pretty sure there is an alpha wolf inside of there somewhere; it's probably the one that sent these things out as scouts.

The three Grayscale Wolves walked around the area, using their powerful sense of smell to try and find the source of the disturbance. Before long, they had found their target.

Huang Shi was currently standing in a large, open area with trees and shrubbery surrounding him on all sides. He didn't want to stay in a place where the wolves could find angles to ambush him, so he chose this clearing to fight.

Two of them are at the 8th level of the Elementary Profound Realm, and one is at the 9th level.

Huang Shi grinned with a savage smile as his eyes started to spark with shades of gold. The group of Grayscale Wolves, on the other hand, didn't seem to know any fear. They started to snarl at him, showing their powerful, sharp fangs.

This will be my first actual fight... let's hope these mutts make it fun.

Without waiting for a moment more, all three of them rushed at him at the same time and started their attack.

WHOOSH!

One of the wolves—the one nearest to him at the front, at the 8th level—swiped one of its powerful claws at him. A strong gust of wind hit his face as the claws came close.

Huang Shi didn't want to find out what would happen if he let that thing hit him, so he quickly dodged to the left. He clenched his right fist and punched straight at the wolf's ribs, his hand covered in glowing Golden Sunfyre flames.

BOOM!

The wolf let out a small whimper before being sent flying back towards its two companions smashing into the ground. Bright red blood started to gurgle out of its mouth. It wasn't dead, but it was clearly heavily injured.

Without giving him any time to breathe, the other 8th level Grayscale Wolf arrived at his side. It opened its massive jaws, trying to rip out his throat with its teeth. At the same time, the 9th level Grayscale Wolf attacked him from behind, trying to rip open his back in a mess of blood and gore.

Huang Shi's eyes flickered. In a split second, he had already made a decision. He first ducked down low, dodging the lunge filled with teeth that was in front of him. While he was down, he used his feet to kick the wolf's own legs, causing the heavy beast to tumble and trip on the ground.

He then changed his targets. Turning around quickly, he created even more golden flames. This time, he gripped the massive claws of the Grayscale Wolf behind him. He held them tight before kicking hard at its stomach, his foot also burning bright with Sunfyre.

BOOM!
