Chapter 13 - Miss Enchantress

Ye Jun suspected it was a big trap, but he still needed to check it since it was close to his house. Who knew what the Ye Clan would do if they found a dead body near his hut.

'Probably use it to put crimes on my head and kill me then.'

Still, the other possibility was that the woman was dangerous herself and she wasn't really dead. That certainly had a high chance of being true, so even while approaching her, he kept his guard up.

He lowered his arm so that the dagger was hidden under his sleeve and slowly went toward her. His steps created little to no noise, another skill he had learned to become an assassin.

Just as the distance between them remained only a few meters, the woman stirred awake and raised her head, revealing a stunningly beautiful face marred with dirt and dust along with fresh blood.

Ye Jun froze in his place as his eyes lingered on her beautiful face for a long moment. The woman smiled at him and it felt like the sky came crashing down on him.

"Can you please help me, Little Brother?" she said in her sweet, seductive voice that sent shivers down Ye Jun's spine. "I'll give a reward for it."

She licked her juicy lips and winked at him. "You can do whatever you want with this big sister."

"A-Anything?" Ye Jun gulped. "You aren't lying, right?"

"Big Sister wouldn't lie to her handsome Little Brother," she moaned lightly and said. "Please, help me quickly."

"YES!!" Ye Jun almost shouted and hurried over toward the woman.

As he got closer, he crouched down and a blade flicked forward from his right hand before the woman could react.

Feeling the cold edge of the blade against her chest, the woman's eyes widened in shock as her head snapped toward Ye Jun, who by now had regained his composure.

Long gone was the nervous youth who began thinking with his lower half upon seeing her beauty. Instead, all she saw now were the cold eyes of a predator staring down at her.

She knew those eyes. She knew them very well.

'He will kill me!' she thought in horror. 'He was faking it!'

Those were the eyes of a cold, ruthless murderer who wouldn't think twice before killing her.

"You... you played with me!" she hissed.

"Now, now, let's not play the victim card here, Miss Enchantress," Ye Jun smiled and pushed the blade a little deeper against her chest. "Dare to move and I'll slide this dagger right into your Dantian."

Her body shook as she finally realized what he planned to do.

"Yes, I can sense you're very strong, but not now. You're heavily injured."

The woman scoffed. "It's enough to kill a brat like you."

"Hey, stick to Handsome Little Brother, though I don't mind changing it to Handsome Big Brother," Ye Jun said, smiling. "In any case, I'm sure you can kill me. But I can assure you I'm fast enough to destroy your Dantian before dying. Then, good luck finding a way to mend it in this condition."

And he was sure mending a broken Dantian was impossible, or at least more difficult than healing broken meridians. This was why he used such a threat.

The woman gritted her teeth and said, "What do you want from a dying woman? Don't tell me you really want my body?"

"Stop flattering yourself," Ye Jun almost rolled his eyes, but knew it was too dangerous. "Who gets in bed with a snake?"

"Then out with it!" the woman growled.

"Quite simple!" Ye Jun smiled. "You see, I have many enemies who want me dead and I'm not strong enough to protect myself. So, I want you to protect me."

The woman chuckled. "So, you're trusting me with your life? What makes you think I wouldn't end your life before them?"

"Probably because you have no reason to," Ye Jun shrugged lightly.

"Why do you think I'll agree to it?" the woman asked.

"You're heavily injured, Miss Enchantress," Ye Jun replied. "And you have your enemies coming after you too. I can provide you with a safe disguise and a place where you can hide and recover peacefully."

"I already killed all of them," the woman said coldly. "I have no enemies left."

"Nope! You can stop bluffing," Ye Jun shook his head. "Let me guess, your enemies sent people after you and you killed them, but in the battle got into such a state."

Seeing the look in her eyes, Ye Jun smiled. "I hit the nail on the head. So, your enemies are still alive and searching for you. So, what do you think about my offer? You don't need to do much, after all."

The woman stayed silent for a long while before saying, "I still can't understand how you're trusting me with your life so casually. The moment I recover, I can kill you easily."

"For one, we don't have any enmity between us, so we can make a deal. Second, I trust a stranger more than my family, really," Ye Jun said. "Third, I'm trusting my gut feeling. I feel you won't betray someone who saved you."

He didn't lie about it. One thing he trusted with all his being was his instincts. They never lied to him. His instincts told him he could trust this complete stranger, so as always, he decided to follow them.

Besides, he really needed some protection. His family was filled with murderers who could kill him anytime if things went south. And he wasn't strong enough, so he had to take this risk and get a bodyguard.

'Sometimes you have to sleep with a blade to protect yourself.'

"You're a madman," the woman chuckled. "You must really hate your family."

"Oh, I certainly do. I'll happily sacrifice them to some blood god if I get the chance," Ye Jun said. "So, what do you say? Do you like this deal?"

"I like it, but remember I'm not your servant or anything, so treat me with respect. Even in my weak state I can kill you and your whole clan ten times over," the woman said in a low voice.

Ye Jun sensed the threat clearly in her voice. She meant it. So, he just smiled. "As long as you can protect me, I don't really care about these small details."

"Good! Then remove this dagger," the woman said, looking down. "That's my lifetime's worth of effort."

Ye Jun removed the dagger and stood up, while stretching his hand toward her. "Let me take you to my humble hut."

The woman stood up on her own and said, "I can manage myself."

"So, you really were pretending," Ye Jun noted.

"My injuries are internal and I've already taken pills," the woman replied calmly. "External injuries aren't enough to slow me down."

"That's good." Ye Jun nodded. "The name's Ye Jun, by the way."

"Meihui. That's all you need to know."
