India is a land that has been blessed by the Parambrahma himself and because of this blessing many devas, devis have taken birth or incarnation in this Holy land.
The Adiyogi Mahadev have taken his saakar swaroop in this land and gave the divine knowledge to the Sapta Rishis through whom the knowledge started to spread in this land.
And to strengthen the divine knowledge and help in creating the universe Brahma Dev took his form and created the Vedas that encompasses knowledge that spreads to many fields.
The Hindu scriptures have always believed in the multiverse and so it is believed that every universe had its own Brahma Dev and they all are distinguished by the number of heads they have.
The Brahma Dev of this universe had five heads of his own in which the four heads represented the knowledge of Brahma Dev but the fifth head represented the ego, arrogance of Brahma Dev.
The ego and arrogance of Brahma Dev grew so strong that he started to claim himself as the one and only true God of the universe and started to insult the others and think as insignificant before him and his ego and arrogance started to harm the universe in a whole.
But Brahma Dev didn't knew that there is someone in the universe who always remains in deep meditation but whenever the ego and arrogance of anyone starts to threaten the universe then he wakes up and eliminates the ego and arrogance.
The roar of ego and arrogance of the fifth head of Brahma Dev reached to the heights from where he can only see himself as the one and only supreme power and getting drunk on this ego and arrogance Brahma Dev challenged Narayana to a Duel to prove his might.
Both of them materialised their greatest weapons to exchange blows against each other.
But before their clash could have happened a fiery pillar of fire appeared before them which surprised them both.
But soon an unseen voice told them, "The decision of who is supreme shall be done by a challenge. This challenge is that if anyone of you can find the beginning or ending point of this pillar then the finder will be announced as the supreme."
In his ego and arrogance Brahma Dev at first refused to take this challenge and attacked the fiery pillar of fire with his weapon but before it could have hit the target the weapon of Brahma Dev vanished.
Shocked and surprised were the expressions of Brahma Dev but he continued to attack the pillar with his weapons in which all of them vanished even before hitting the target.
"Brahma Dev we should accept this challenge just as the pillar has given to us."
Brahma Dev after attacking the pillar became exhausted and accepted the challenge but he made it clear that he will search for the beginning of the pillar and so he will go to the top.
Narayana happily agreed with this condition of Brahma Dev and took the challenge of finding the ending part of the pillar and thus both of them went on their respective ends.
Brahma Dev ventured into the seven upper lokas but he couldn't find the beginning of the pillar while Narayana went onto the seven lower lokas but he took couldn't find the ending of the pillar.
Narayana gave up searching for the ending of the pillar after going very deep and came back to the place from where he had began his journey.
Meanwhile Brahma Dev also couldn't found the beginning of the pillar even after taking the form of a swan to soar higher.
But in his quest Brahma Dev found Ketaki flower falling from the top and when he asked her about the beginning of the pillar she humbly replied that she too doesn't know about the beginning of the fire pillar.
Tired and adamant to not accept his defeat Brahma Dev formulated a lie in which he offered to give many boons and riches to the Ketaki flower to become the fake witness of his victory.
Falling for the greed given by Brahma Dev, Ketaki flower agreed and soon they both returned to the point from where Brahma Dev had began his journey.
Once the Narayana and Brahma Dev gathered at that point the unseen voice asked one by one to both of them if they have found victory.
Narayana in a very humble and gratitude filled voice and words accepted his defeat.
But Brahma Dev with a smug face giving a smirk rejoiced saying that he has found the beginning point of the pillar of fire.
And to prove his words he presented the Ketaki flower as his witness and the flower agreed to each and every word spoken by Brahma Dev.
With this witness of his Brahma Dev started to proclaim himself as the supreme but suddenly the pillar of fire started to became very fiery that uts flames started to burn both Brahma Dev and the Ketaki flower.
Soon the pillar of fire disappeared and in place of it a very bright and blinding light appeared that has blinded Brahma Dev and Ketaki flower.
When that light fade away the three of them saw a figure standing before then whose complexion is as white as the camphor. They also saw the figure has three eyes and very long black hairs that are tied in a dreadlocks with a trishul in his hand and he is wearing divine Rudraksha as his ornaments.
That figure was looking so scary with the anger on his face that terrified the Ketaki flower while Brahma Dev remained in his smug face and Narayana folded his hands before him.
In a terrifying thunderous roar the figure put a curse on the Ketaki flower in which he forbade it from not being used in his worship and then he even cursed Brahma Dev to not to be worshipped on Earth by humans.
Brahma Dev became very angry after hearing this curse on him and said that he will kill that figure.
But it was all too late...
The figure closed his eyes and from his body a burning ball of fire appeared which took a form who full black complexion with thick and big mustache and beard with a garland made up of skulls around his neck and a sword and trishul in his hands.
"Kaal Bhairav cut down the fifth head of Brahma Dev that is showing his ego, arrogance, falsehood and uncontrolled pride."
"Jo Agnya Mahakaal."
Heeding to the order of Mahakaal Mahadev, Kaal Bhairav grabbed the fift head of Brahma Dev and in one single strike cut off the fifth head of Brahma Dev from his body and making him Chaturmukhi Brahma.
Kaal Bhairav brought divine justice and truth being associated with Kaal or Time.
The figure who is none other than the Adiyogi, Mahakaal, Mahadev told Kaal Bhairav to go Kashi and take bath in the divine Ganga river to get freed from the curse of Brahma hatya.
And so from that day onwards Kaal Bhairav has remained in Kashi as its protector.
"So my dear son remembered never to bring any ego, arrogance or sin in your head or else Kaal Bhairav will punish you."
"I understood Maa."
In a big house in the Kashi a mother told this story of Kaal Bhairav to her son who is ten years old to learn about truth and justice.
But this mother and son didn't knew that Kaal Bhairav is going to be a part in the life of the son and in the darkness of the night the shadow of Kaal Bhairav and his mount a black dog fall on their house.
This marks the divine connection of Kaal Bhairav and the son and sets the story of the son in motion going forward.
