Chapter 73 - Facing the White Dragon Emperor

"That light... disappeared."

Maintaining the barrier, Tsubaki Shinra sensed the terrifying magic power that had erupted within the school and then vanished just as suddenly. Her expression was dazed, clearly unable to understand what had happened.

Because of their angle, Sona Sitri and her group could only see the dazzling expansion of the magic power. They couldn't directly see the half-bodied, snake-haired lamia at its center.

"No matter what happened over there, the disappearance of magic power capable of instantly destroying Saitama Prefecture is unquestionably good news."

Not far from Tsubaki Shinra, Sona Sitri stared straight ahead as she delivered the update to her servants.

"Judging by this, our mission may be ending soon."

"That's great... it's finally almost over."

Nimura Ryuuko, the chestnut-haired girl with twin pigtails, let out a weak cheer. Her small face was twisted in misery.

"In another two minutes, my magic power will be completely drained."

"Same here."

To her left, the short, dark-blue-haired Yura Tsubasa echoed softly.

"+"

"+"

"+"

"Focus."

Seeing her servants grow distracted, Sona Sitri called out calmly, pulling their attention back.

"Yes!"

Neither Rias nor her servants possessed the ability to negate or erase magic power of that level.

The two Holy Sword users didn't seem capable of it either.

Which meant-

Could this have been Hiro Nanamiya's doing again?

As she continued maintaining the barrier, that guess quietly surfaced in Sona Sitri's mind.

The final puppet obtained.

Swish.

Using magic to avoid the bright red blood spraying from Kokabiel and from girls like Asia, Hiro directly stored the newly acquired "toy" into March of the Dead after the recognition process completed.

With that, all available slots for March of the Dead: Eight Spears had been filled.

If he wanted to replace one next time, he would have to discard an existing puppet. Naturally, the candidates would be the weakest-either the four low-class fallen angels, or possibly Freed and Lint Sellzen.

Perhaps due to Hiro's influence, Asia didn't faint outright after learning the truth, unlike in the original course of events.

Though her face wavered, she still barely steadied herself and looked toward him.

"Hiro-kun... did you already know about this?"

At her question, Xenovia and Irina-whose mental states were just as shaken-also turned their gazes to him. Only Lint Sellzen, a stranger they had just met, remained apart.

"Hm."

Under the eyes of the three girls, Hiro nodded calmly.

"Then..."

Asia's eyes immediately reddened, as if betrayal had struck her all at once.

She opened her mouth, trying to speak.

"You want to ask why I didn't tell you?"

Even without reading minds, Hiro could tell what she was thinking from her expression.

He explained casually.

"First of all, I'm just a fifteen-year-old human. My credibility is nowhere near that of a ten-winged fallen angel from the Bible. And even if I had told you, you wouldn't have believed me. You'd probably have gotten angry instead."

"..."

Asia fell silent.

So did Xenovia and Irina.

They only needed a moment of thought to realize that what he said made sense.

They wanted to refute him.

But they couldn't find any reason to.

Looking at the gloomy expressions on the four girls' faces, Hiro gave Rias a look that clearly said, you handle it.

Then he turned and walked toward Kiba.

"Kiba. Are you done over here yet?"

"Nanamiya-kun, you came at the perfect time!"

Kiba Yuuto looked up at Hiro, joy flashing across his face.

Abandoning the still-uncontrolled golden Holy Sword, he rushed over and bowed at a full ninety degrees.

"Please give me one more chance! As long as I can cut this down, I'm willing to do anything!"

You're a man, too. What use would that be to me?

Hiro muttered inwardly. He didn't begin accumulating Boost as Kiba seemed to expect.

Instead, he raised his right hand, pointed toward Valper's unconscious position, and spoke lightly.

"The proposer, executor, and supreme commander of the Holy Sword Project. The apostate who ordered all of you to be 'cleared.' Valper-the short, fat old man from earlier."

"Instead of this sword you can't cut... don't you have accounts to settle with him?"

!

Kiba Yuuto snapped his head up as if struck by lightning.

"Really?!"

Seeing the disbelief on Kiba's face, Hiro shrugged indifferently.

"With things as they are, you have more than enough time to interrogate him."

"..."

Two seconds passed.

Kiba finally glanced at the golden Holy Sword at his feet, then turned and ran toward the direction Hiro indicated, without looking back.

"Thank you, Hiro-kun!"

At this point, everything should be fine.

That thought had just crossed Hiro's mind when his Observation Haki suddenly caught something.

An extremely fast figure was approaching from the opposite direction of Sona Sitri's location.

In just a few seconds, it reached the barrier-and arrived directly above Rias and the others.

Alright.

There's still the White Dragon Emperor to deal with.

Crack-crack-!

"Hm? Where did that Kokabiel guy go?"

A slightly puzzled young male voice rang out.

The barrier above Rias and the others was instantly riddled with cracks, then shattered completely in the next moment.

Bang!!

"What happened?!"

Rias's expression tightened as she looked up, temporarily halting her efforts to comfort the four girls.

Silver-white full-body armor, similar in structure to Hiro's, covered the intruder.

Behind him stretched a pair of enormous, translucent light wings.

Five pure white orbs of varying sizes adorned his chest and shoulders, making him look like a newly born war god.

"Could it be... the White Dragon Emperor?"

Akeno murmured softly.

The uninvited guest scanned the area, but the figure he was looking for was nowhere to be seen.

"Where's Kokabiel?"

"Are you talking about this guy?"

Hiro raised his right hand and released Kokabiel from March of the Dead's storage space.

Kokabiel-no doubt about it.

But this feeling...

He's dead?

Necromancy?

Beneath Vali's mask, his brows furrowed deeply.

Looking down at Kokabiel, standing silently beside the crimson figure, he hesitated.

Azazel had said rough methods were acceptable.

But he had specifically requested that Kokabiel be kept alive.

Now I'm too late.

Do I bring back a corpse?

Or does it not matter?

No-

Maybe I can use this chance to fight the second Red Dragon Emperor. Hiro Nanamiya.

That thought immediately pushed Azazel's request to the back of Vali's mind.

"Hiro Nanamiya. Hand over the corpse beside you."

"Azazel asked me to bring him back. Even if he's dead, the mission should still count as completed."

Don't agree. Don't agree.

Vali's inner thoughts were the complete opposite of his words.

Hiro's reply matched that battle-hungry desire perfectly.

"I refuse."

"If that's the case, don't blame me!"

The moment Hiro finished speaking, Vali could no longer suppress the fighting spirit in his heart.

His body traced a silver-white arc through the air as he charged.

Thump!

The iron fist wrapped in silver-white armor was blocked by a pale, bloodless hand.

Vali's pupils shrank.

The face inches from his own-

Kokabiel?

Necromancy shouldn't be able to perfectly reproduce the strength of the deceased.

But the feedback from his fist was unmistakable.

This "corpse" possessed Maou-class power.

In other words-

The same level as Kokabiel at his peak.

"It's not your fault."

Hiro's calm voice sounded from behind Kokabiel.

"If you have the strength... I don't mind you taking him away."
