Chapter 12 - A Proud Declaration

Everyone tried to calm Elena down.

"Wait, wait!" one of the knights shouted, raising his hands. "Let us explain!"

"The girl came here on her own!" another said, pointing at Shawn.

"We didn't do anything wrong!" a third exclaimed.

Elena glared at them, sword still raised, brow furrowed.

She held Shawn protectively in her arms, shielding her like something fragile and precious.

Shawn was still speechless from everything that had just happened.

'Why is healing these people so damn complicated?' he thought, frustration surging through him.

But thinking rationally, yeah… the knights did have a point.

He had burst in like a maniac yelling about needing to touch them to heal them.

'Yeah, it's totally logical they called me a pervert,' he admitted to himself.

Shawn glanced at Elena.

The knight had a look of pure disgust toward her comrades, as if they were the lowest scum on earth.

It was obvious Elena had built a completely different version of events in her head.

'Why bother correcting her?' Shawn thought, a tiny smirk tugging at his lips. 'These ungrateful jerks deserve it for rejecting my help earlier!'

Elena began to speak, her voice firm and full of authority.

"I understand you don't want her here," she said, staring the knights down seriously. "But she is a proper young lady. You should treat her with respect and delicacy, the way a true lady deserves."

The knights lowered their gazes, ashamed.

The doctor—who had been working in silence—nodded in agreement.

Crack!

The sound of bone snapping made Shawn's stomach turn.

The doctor finished severing the knight's arm and dropped it into a metal bucket.

Clang!

The limb landed with a heavy thud.

The doctor wiped his hands on a filthy rag and looked at Elena with a gallant smile.

"I completely agree with the captain's opinion," he said smoothly. "These brainless battle junkies clearly didn't know how to treat a young lady like her."

Then he turned to Shawn with a kind smile.

"Miss, don't hesitate—go to any shop and buy whatever clothes you like," he said, gesturing grandly. "I'll pay for it all!"

Shawn's jaw dropped.

'What…?' he thought, confusion hitting him hard. 'That bastard was insulting me like crazy just a minute ago!'

Elena smiled at the doctor with clear approval.

"No doubt about it, Doctor—you know exactly how to apologize to a lady," she said softly.

Then she looked at Shawn, eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Sheila, come with me," she said, beaming. "We're leaving right now for a very fun little shopping excursion to get you clothes that make you look absolutely beautiful."

Shawn blinked, utterly bewildered.

But before he could respond, Marcus—the knight who had been healed—raised his voice.

"Wait!" he shouted, stepping forward.

Elena shot him a cold look.

"What do you want?" she asked, frowning.

Marcus cleared his throat.

"That girl—"

Elena cut him off instantly.

"Don't call her 'girl,'" she said icily. "Her name is Sheila."

Marcus apologized quickly.

"Sorry," he said, nodding. "Sheila… she… she actually healed me!"

Elena frowned, suspicious.

"What?" she asked, eyeing him warily.

Marcus turned around and lifted his tunic.

"Look at my back!" he said, pointing at his skin.

Elena stepped closer and examined it carefully.

And froze.

Marcus had a large, ugly scar across his back—from a monster bite years ago.

But now…

It was gone.

The skin was completely smooth, not a single mark left.

Elena blinked, shock washing over her.

"What…?" she murmured, staring wide-eyed at his back.

Marcus lowered his tunic and looked at the doctor.

"Doctor," he said, voice trembling. "Is the princess's blood suddenly able to heal vital-area scars now?"

The doctor—who was in the middle of bandaging the stump of the knight whose arm he'd just amputated—shook his head.

"Have you gone stupid?" he said firmly. "The blood only regenerates parts of the body that can be amputated. Your back isn't one of them."

Marcus turned to Shawn, confusion all over his face.

Elena also looked at Shawn, astonishment clear in her eyes.

Every pair of eyes in the room was now fixed on him.

Shawn felt heat rush to his cheeks.

'Here we go again,' he thought, discomfort rising.

But then he took a deep breath.

'I can't look like an idiot,' he thought, determination surging.

Shawn straightened his back, lifted his chin proudly.

"Yes," he said firmly. "I healed him."

Marcus stepped closer, curiosity piqued.

"How did you do it?" he asked, frowning.

The doctor said nothing, but he looked very interested now.

He had stopped bandaging and was watching Shawn intently.

Shawn took a deep breath, excitement building.

'This is my moment,' he thought, a proud smile spreading across his face.

"Any person I touch with my hands," he declared, raising both hands dramatically, "will be healed!"

Silence flooded the room.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Everyone just stared at Shawn with expressions of pure bewilderment.
