Chapter 20 - Day With No Goodbyes

They agreed without rules.

No talking about leaving.

No "what ifs."

No last looks that lasted too long.

Just a normal day.

It started with school.

Nothing special—chalk dust, half-listened lectures, the hum of fans fighting the heat.

Yuna passed Ren a note during class.

After school. Same way home.

He read it twice.

Then folded it carefully, like it mattered.

After school, they walked side by side.

No one else. No witnesses.

They talked about stupid things—teachers they disliked, movies they'd never finish, food they missed from childhood.

Ren laughed more than he had in weeks.

Yuna felt lighter than she expected.

They stopped at the convenience store.

Ren bought popsicles. Yuna complained about the flavor. He ate hers anyway.

"See?" he said. "Normal."

She smiled. "Very convincing."

They sat on the curb outside her house.

The afternoon sun stretched long shadows across the street.

Ren leaned back on his hands. "If today had a name, what would it be?"

Yuna thought for a moment.

"Tuesday," she said.

He laughed. "You're impossible."

"I'm honest."

For a while, they said nothing.

This silence wasn't heavy.

It was warm.

Safe.

When it was time to part, Yuna stood.

Ren stayed seated.

She hesitated.

Then did something unexpected.

She leaned down and kissed his cheek.

Quick. Soft. Real.

"There," she said. "For today."

Ren's face went red.

"Yuna—"

"No," she interrupted gently. "No goodbyes."

She smiled and went inside before he could say anything else.

That night, Ren stared at the ceiling for a long time.

His cheek still felt warm.

In the group chat, Mio sent a message:

Mio: Tomorrow—night swimming. No excuses.

Yuna replied with a wave emoji.

Ren typed:

Ren: I'm in.

Some days don't try to be unforgettable.

They just refuse to fade.
