"Ding!"
"Congratulations, host, for obtaining the Solar Authority: Leo."
Hiro: ...
He stared at the blue sky and drifting white clouds outside the window, frozen for several seconds before slowly coming back to himself. His expression turned strange in a way he couldn't quite describe.
The weight of this newbie gift pack...
wasn't it a bit excessive? Was this some kind of special compensation for being over ten years late?
An authority tied to the inheritance of the zodiac and equatorial Star Beasts.
One that had once resisted Kuro Usagi's "Simulated Divinity - Brahmaastra Replica."
Originally, the Leo Authority belonged to the Sun-Dwelling Lion of "No Name," and later passed to Kalaji of the Maou Alliance "Ouroboros."
It could even harbor the Avatara's fourth transformation, the "Lion God Beast Narasimha," which repelled all weapons in the world, regardless of whether they were divine or celestial in origin.
Although the "Leo Solar Authority" never displayed direct offensive power in the original novel, and the ability to summon Star Beasts was only shown by the White Night King (Cross) among the Star Spirits, that wasn't a critical issue for the current, penniless Hiro.
At the very least, once equipped with this Solar Authority, he would already be invincible against opponents like Cao Cao, Siegfried, Jeanne, and Kiba Yuuto-fighters who relied heavily on weapons.
Of course, that didn't mean he could actually win.
With a brief thought, Hiro clicked the small sun marked with a lion in the system's item bar and pressed the "use" button.
The small sun vanished from the item bar. As for him-
Forget a surge of warmth, a rise in spirit, or any feeling of overflowing power. He didn't sense even the slightest abnormality, as if everything that had just happened were nothing more than a daydream.
Only the item bar that had appeared on the system panel-and was now empty again-silently confirmed that something had, in fact, occurred.
"That's it?"
Hiro lowered his head, clenched and unclenched his right hand a few times, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
A Solar Authority this powerful, and it ended this anticlimactically.
Dong. Dong.
"That question over there-Nanamiya Hiro, right? Stand up and answer."
The homeroom teacher, Kyoudo, stopped his long-winded explanation, tapped the blackboard with the chalk in his right hand, and called out to the dazed Hiro.
Hiro stood up and looked at the problem the teacher was pointing at.
After thinking for a couple of seconds, he answered smoothly.
"Put X and Y..."
More than ten seconds later, as Hiro finished giving the standard solution, Kyoudo's aged face grew a little awkward.
From the start of class, this kid had clearly been spacing out, barely looking at the board. He definitely wasn't listening to the lecture.
So how did he solve a question that went beyond the curriculum?
Still, uncomfortable as he felt, the student had answered correctly. As a qualified-no, even excellent-homeroom teacher, Kyoudo naturally didn't press the issue.
As long as grades were good and attendance was sufficient, what was the problem if a student didn't listen in class or zoned out a bit?
In that regard, Kyoudo was no different from any ordinary educator.
"Very good. Correct answer."
Looking at Hiro's calm, composed expression, Kyoudo waved his left hand, signaling him to sit down.
"Hey, Nanamiya-kun. You weren't listening just now, were you? How did you know how to solve that problem?"
Just as Hiro sat down, a soft voice came from beside him.
Others might not have realized it, but Yuuki Asuna-an elite who had already completed three years of high school coursework under her mother's strict supervision-knew very well that the question was beyond the curriculum.
That was exactly why she was curious about Hiro's calm demeanor, even to the point of violating her usual elite principles by zoning out in class herself.
Hearing her question, Hiro turned his head. Asuna's delicate face, tinged with curiosity, entered his view.
"Hm... maybe it was just too simple?" He tilted his head as if thinking, then chuckled softly and lowered his voice. "I don't have any special talent. I just have a good memory. I'd already read through the textbook before class, so I didn't find it difficult."
"I see." Asuna nodded and gave him a polite smile.
"Thank you for explaining, Nanamiya-kun."
Ending his brief conversation with the "original Asuna," Hiro shifted his gaze forward-to the light-gray number hovering more than twenty centimeters above Koneko's head.
"So, system. At this distance, I should be able to extract Koneko's luck, right? How do I start?"
Avoiding her back, Hiro stared at the lead-gray "3" and asked inwardly.
"Focus your gaze on the luck value and silently say 'steal.' If the distance is insufficient, there will be no reaction."
Silently say it? That was convenient.
Hiro focused his eyes and muttered inwardly.
"Steal."
The instant the thought formed, the system's voice rang out in his mind.
"Ding!"
"The time required for this extraction is 45 minutes. Do you wish to begin?"
Forty-five minutes... an entire class period.
That's long.
Hiro frowned slightly but didn't dwell on it.
"Begin."
"Ding! Third-Tier luck extraction initiated. Remaining time: 44 minutes and 59 seconds. When the host leaves the maximum allowable distance, the extraction countdown will pause and automatically resume upon re-entry."
"Current task: After the host's palm remains above Koneko's head for three seconds, the remaining time will be reduced by 40 minutes."
Three seconds. Forty minutes.
Hearing the requirement, Hiro couldn't help but glance at the cluster of short white hair-
then quietly looked away.
Can't afford to provoke her. Absolutely can't.
If he actually did that, even if Koneko didn't do anything in class, after class-or after school-she would very forcibly drag him somewhere and then...
Scold him?
Teach him a lesson?
Warn him?
Either way, nothing good would come of it.
Besides, it was only forty-five minutes. It wasn't like he couldn't wait.
Why deliberately court death?
After seeing off the homeroom teacher Kyoudo, Hiro waited a few more minutes as a world history teacher with cherry-blossom-colored hair entered the classroom.
"Ding!"
"Third-Tier luck extraction completed. Congratulations, host, for obtaining improved physical fitness and Navy Six Styles - Finger Gun."
