Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: The Glowing Abyss

The sun had begun to dip, but the heat between Keifer and Jay-jay was only rising. After the morning's chaotic breakfast, Keifer had pulled Jay-jay away from the boys, leading her to a sleek, matte-black speed boat anchored at the far end of the beach.

"Where are we going now, Mr. Watson? Another drone-strike location?" Jay-jay teased, clutching her life vest.

"No drones. No boys. Just the ocean," Keifer said, his eyes fixed on the horizon. He looked like a god of the sea in his charcoal diving suit, the tight fabric highlighting every muscle he had worked so hard to maintain.

He took them to a secluded cove where the water was so clear it looked like liquid glass. As the sky turned a deep indigo, something magical happened. The water began to glow.

"Bioluminescence," Keifer explained, helping her into her scuba gear. "When the water moves, the plankton light up. It's like swimming in a galaxy."

They dived.

The moment the water closed over Jay-jay's head, the noise of the world vanished. There was only the sound of her own breathing and the sight of Keifer's hand reaching out for hers.

As they kicked deeper into the cove, the movement of their fins triggered explosions of neon blue light. Every stroke Jay-jay took left a trail of stardust in the water. It was ethereal—a dreamscape that felt far away from the blood, fire, and betrayals of the Watson legacy.

Keifer led her to a flat coral plateau. He signaled for her to stay still. In the glowing dark, he pulled out a small, waterproof slate and a neon marker.

He wrote quickly, the glowing ink bright against the blue abyss. He held it up for her to see:

"In the classroom, I found my Mutya."

He wiped it clean and wrote again, his eyes locked onto hers through their masks:

"In the war, I found my Queen."

Finally, he wrote the words that made Jay-jay's heart hammer against her ribs, louder than the regulator in her mouth:

"In every life, in every ocean... I will always find you. I love you, Jay-jay until the scientist find the end of the universe"

Jay-jay felt a tear escape, instantly lost to the saltwater inside her mask. She didn't have a slate to write back, so she did the only thing she could.

She swam into his arms.

In the weightless environment of the deep sea, their embrace felt infinite. They tumbled slowly in the water, a swirl of blue light surrounding them like a protective cocoon. Keifer held her waist, pulling her flush against him, his forehead resting against hers.

In that silent, glowing world, there were no CEOs, no gang leaders, and no Elders. There was just a boy and a girl who had survived everything the world threw at them, finally finding peace in the dark.

When they finally broke the surface, the stars were out. The silence of the ocean was replaced by the gentle lapping of waves against the boat.

Keifer helped Jay-jay onto the deck, peeling back her hood. Her hair was a tangled, wet mess, but to Keifer, she had never looked more beautiful. The bioluminescent water still clung to her skin, making her glow in the moonlight.

"You're a cheeseball, Keifer Watson," Jay-jay whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.

"I'm a cheeseball who's madly in love with you," he replied, his hands sliding down her arms to lock his fingers with hers. "I wanted you to see that even in the darkest, deepest places, there is still light. That's what you are to me."

He leaned in, and this time, the kiss was deep, salty, and filled with a raw passion that the ocean couldn't cool.

"Let's go back to the tent," Keifer murmured against her lips, his voice dropping into that dangerous, heavy tone. "I think we've had enough 'public' time for one day."

Jay-jay smirked, her eyes flashing with a challenge. "Is that a royal command, King?"

It's a husband's request," he whispered, picking her up effortlessly and heading for the cabin.
