Winter had come to the quiet valley, painting the green grass and tall pine trees with a thick, sparkling blanket of bright white snow. Inside the little timber cabin, the warm fire crackled happily, fighting off the biting chill of the wind.
But inside Nikki's heart, a different kind of chill was slowly creeping in.
Adonis was acting strange.
At first, it was just little things. The giant, terrifying God of War had always been incredibly protective of her. But lately, his worry had turned into a frantic, hovering panic. If Nikki carried a basket of firewood that was slightly too heavy, Adonis would swoop in and take it from her hands. If she sneezed from the cold morning air, his bright blue eyes would flash with sudden alarm, scanning her face for minutes on end.
