Chapter 6 - the end of dungeon

As the Echo Weaver surged toward Diara, she collapsed under the weight of fear and confusion, whispers crawling through her mind: "Trust no one… You are enough… Only you can stop it… They seek to destroy you alone…" Then, as if the world itself had paused, all the whispers vanished. Illusions dissolved into a sudden, oppressive silence, leaving a heavy emptiness hanging in the air.

The first thing Diara noticed as clarity returned to her mind were the droplets of blood trickling down her forehead, a painful reminder of how close she had been to death. She lifted her head, eyes wide and trembling, scanning her surroundings—and caught sight, in a fleeting moment, of the Echo Weaver's jagged arm aimed directly at her.

But it did not reach her. Instead, it pierced Lio's shoulder, who had placed himself as an unyielding shield, standing firm between her and the attack. Death itself seemed halted by his resolve.

Diara froze, her heart a tangle of disbelief and fear. "Why? Why would he risk himself for me?"

Then Lio's voice rang out, sharp and commanding, cutting through the lingering shadows:

— "Fool! This is no time to be swayed by illusions!"

Though his tone was harsh, a warning that brooked no hesitation, beneath it lay a quiet warmth, a promise: this is no place for a child to die.

Summoning the last reserves of his strength, Lio unleashed a devastating fire spell—a pillar of crimson flame that erupted with blinding brilliance. In an instant, the Echo Weaver was obliterated, its twisted form consumed, leaving behind a scarlet trail of destruction, a testament to Lio's courage and the ferocity of his resolve.

Herald and the others tried to pull him back, fear etched on their faces at the sight of his injuries, but Lio refused, voice firm and unwavering:

— "I can continue. I am fine."

Diara approached him, eyes wide, reflecting equal measures of awe and fear, her voice trembling as she asked:

— "Why… why would you risk yourself for me?"

To anyone else, it might have been a simple question. But for Diara—scarred by betrayal, hardened by years of mistrust—it carried the weight of worlds.

Lio looked at her calmly, his voice low and steady, yet filled with unspoken depth:

— "Because… I wanted to."

For a moment, Diara could not respond. She could hardly believe the sensation that coursed through her—a warmth, a strange comfort, the inexplicable feeling that someone would protect her without condition, without expectation of gain. In that instant, the thick walls she had built around her heart began to crumble, along with the fears that had chained her for so long.

With the Echo Weaver defeated, the team continued to purge the remaining beasts of Dymas, one by one, swiftly and without incident. Finally, the labyrinthine halls fell silent, the lingering terror lifted, and the group stepped out into the embrace of the golden sunset, its rays brushing against their weary faces, reflecting off their exhausted, battle-worn bodies.

Yet Lio—the child not even twelve—had reached his limits. Blood loss had drained him of strength, and his small frame collapsed to the ground, a stark reminder of his youth and vulnerability. The team rushed to his side, worry etched across every face, but none more so than Diara. Her heart clenched with guilt for his injuries, memories of the three nights she had spent beside him resurfacing—watching over him silently, tending to his needs in the dark.

Hours passed, and when Lio finally awoke, he found Diara asleep on a chair beside him, her expression weary yet peaceful. A small, gentle smile curved his lips, his voice barely more than a whisper, warm and tender:

— "Fool… you shouldn't have worn yourself out like this…"

A hush fell over the group. In that quiet moment, it seemed as though both Lio's fragile heart and Diara's wounded spirit had found a temporary sanctuary amidst the chaos—a silent truce with the world. The lessons of battle, etched into their souls, began to weave themselves into the foundation of a bond stronger than fear, and perhaps, stronger than any magic they had yet encountered.
