Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Cold Being

*The air felt fresh—yet pointless.*

"Um... mister, do you want to play with me?"

A small child stood in my path.

*A child?* "No, I have no time for that." I turned and moved away.

Finding that single threat in this world isn't easy.

Erdath—a dying planet with sprawling land but scarce water—was not welcoming. As I recall, this is a Class B mission.

Target: Hexclaw

Rank: B-Class

Intelligence: Low

"Yohoo!" someone shouted behind me.

I glanced back. Two girls, staring curiously at my unfamiliar attire.

"Your clothes look weird," someone said. I ignored them—clothes like mine weren't meant for small villages anyway.

"Stop that, Lilia," a girl said.

"Sorry about that. My name is Mira and this is Lilia." A warm greeting, she put her hand in her chest closely.

"Hello," Lilia said.

"No time for introductions." I turned and ignored them.

Lilia stared in disbelief.

"Wait!" Mira called out "I know you're not originally from here."

*She's right. I could use someone to guide me through these places.*

*They might be useful.* "One condition." I said. "You should guide me through these areas."

Mira smiled and said "Deal! But first, what's your name?" Another five seconds wasted.

Sigh... "Zerek Ashcroft" I said. Mira looked surprised and said "Wow, your name is so unique." "Even his clothes are unique." Lilia said.

"Oh it's almost evening, anyways let's get started." Mira said.

They led me through to the village. Mira began explaining "This is the village of Greenhallow, this village is considered one of the liveliest villages."

I noticed flowing water in the river. Too much water for a dying world.

"Despite having more land, Greenhallow had a lot of water sources."

Lilia tried to say something- "Stop." I cut her off then Lilia leaned closer and whispered to Mira "He's so rude." Mira laughed softly "Haha.. you'll get used to him."

"Lead me to the inn." I commanded. Mira laughed softly. "Actually there's no inn in this village."

I stopped "We're done."

"You should've said that earlier." "The inn's in the neighboring village." Lilia replied irritably.

"Fair enough." I said, not worth arguing.

"You can stay at my house." Mira said confidently, "It's totally free."

Lilia leaned closer to Mira again and whispered "Are you seriously letting that weird guy stay at your house.?" Lilia looked disgusted.

Well, Mira is useful after all. A guest room is all I need. "Guest room."

Mira awkwardly says "There's no guest room."

A brief silence.

I turned and kept walking.

"Wait! Zerek, where are you going?" Mira shouted

"Geez he is ignoring us." Lilia crossed her arms.

"Hahaha, he's a good guy isn't he?" Mira laughed softly.

"When I saw his attitude, I remembered someone like him." Lilia replied.

"Yeah I know that person you're talking about." Mira replied. "So cold, leaving without a single trace."

*They completely wasted my time, my target hadn't appeared.*

I glanced at the river once again. *In a dying world, that much water makes no sense.*
