Chapter 58 - Chapter 54: The Shadow, The Mark, and The Old Mother

Jujutsu High. Training Ground.

"GRASS!" (Damn it!)

"Hedgehog Brat! Are you trying to murder me?!"

White Zetsu scrambled out of Megumi Fushiguro's shadow, gasping for air.

"There are so many sharp Cursed Tools piled up inside! I almost died!"

"Sorry! Sorry!" Megumi apologized profusely. "I only learned this skill recently. I can't fully control where things go."

Maki Zenin sat nearby, rolling her eyes.

"Forget it, Zetsu. He didn't do it on purpose."

"You accomplice! How dare you speak!" Zetsu pointed an accusing finger at Maki. "It was your spear inside his shadow that almost skewered my heart!"

Falling into the shadow felt like skydiving without a parachute. When he landed, he was surrounded by the weapons Maki had stored there. If he hadn't been lucky...

"You're alright, aren't you?" Maki scoffed.

She didn't notice—or perhaps she didn't care—that one of the purple triangle markings under Zetsu's eye had mysteriously disappeared.

(The "Miracle" technique had activated to save him from the fall).

Nobara, sitting nearby, noticed the mark vanish. She lowered her head, her expression complex.

"Tch!" Zetsu dusted himself off. "Fine. I'm magnanimous. I forgive you this once."

...

Kyoto Jujutsu High.

Time passed. Five days remained until the Goodwill Event.

"Yo~ Long time no see, Utahime!"

Gojo Satoru greeted her with a blinding smile.

Utahime Iori (The Songstress) wore her miko outfit, a scar across her nose. She frowned at the man she hated most.

"What are you doing here again? Didn't you just drop off the souvenirs?"

"I'm not here for you," Gojo grinned, ignoring her disgust. "Where's Grandpa Gakuganji? I need to have a chat."

"Principal's Office," Utahime waved him away impatiently.

"Thanks!" Gojo started walking, then turned back with a wave.

"By the way, Utahime. Please thank your student for me. The information they gave us was quite useful. It really helped a lot."

Utahime frowned. Student? What information?

...

Jujutsu High. Faculty Cabin.

2 PM.

White Zetsu (in Haruta's body) yawned, finally getting out of bed.

He donned his red cloud cloak and admired himself in the mirror.

"Not bad. Master Zetsu is still handsome today."

He walked into the living room. Mirai was curled up on the sofa, reading a book.

"Hey, Mirai-boy," Zetsu muttered. "You make it sound like you're studying for college entrance exams. Reading every day?"

Mirai calmly tossed the book into his Kamui Dimension.

"I finished reading the parts needed for the plan."

He pulled out a brand-new notebook.

"But reading isn't mastering. We just need to wait for The Brain (Kenjaku) to act. The more transparent the plan, the more stable it is."

"You really can endure loneliness," Zetsu curled his lip.

"It's just that you're too active," Mirai flipped through his notes. "Instead of wasting time playing with the students, you should train more."

"You make it sound easy!" Zetsu stretched. "There are limits. Growing a soul in a short time is hard!"

Mirai threw another notebook onto the table.

"I told you to read this. These records are useful for you."

Zetsu picked it up. It was the detailed manual on Soul Manipulation and Body Fabrication. For Zetsu, it was like a martial arts bible.

"This stuff makes me sleepy! It's hypnosis!"

Mirai shook his head.

He really has ADHD. Good at causing trouble, terrible at studying.

"If the Pink Gorilla knew the truth about souls," Zetsu laughed, flipping pages. "His brain would explode."

"Speaking of which... Gojo and the others are trying so hard to hide that Yuji is alive. But I already saw through their tricks."

"Be careful," Mirai warned. "Don't gossip and spill the beans. There are a few months left. Plenty of room for you to cause trouble."

"Don't worry! Grandpa never makes mistakes!"

Zetsu checked the time on his phone.

"Gotta go! Hedgehog Boy is waiting for my pointers!"

He tossed the notebook back to Mirai.

"Keep this safe. I can't carry something this important. My current body is weak... if I die and drop it, it'll be a hassle."

Zetsu strode out of the room, eager to play mentor.

...

The Old Mother.

Mirai watched Zetsu leave. He felt a wave of frustration, but also indulgence.

To Mirai, this world was filled with Humans, Spirits, and Sorcerers.

But to him, they were all like pieces of paper. Disposable.

Tools.

If they were useful, he used them.

If they were useless, they were garbage.

It didn't matter if they lived or died. It didn't matter what they experienced.

But White Zetsu...

The newly born Zetsu was like an innocent infant raised by Mirai.

He controlled Zetsu's life and death, yes. But in his heart, he regarded Zetsu as Family.

His mindset toward Zetsu could be described in three words:

Old Mother.

Only a spendthrift idiot like White Zetsu could be so good.
