Chapter 54 - Chapter 50: The Heart and the Wrath

The Reservoir.

The rain of blood stopped. The Open Domain vanished.

Mirai stood on the water's surface, his wounds fully healed.

"Are you done?" Mirai asked, his voice flat. "Useless again?"

Sukuna fell silent.

The gap in power between 3 Fingers and this man was too wide.

"Hehe."

A sinister smile crept across Sukuna's lips.

"I'll remember you, Zenin Mirai."

"Wait for me. Once I deal with this brat... you'll be begging for mercy on your knees."

SQUELCH.

Sukuna plunged his right hand into Yuji's chest.

He ripped out the boy's heart.

Blood splashed into the dark water. The heart beat rhythmically in Sukuna's clawed hand.

"I can live without a heart," Sukuna sneered. "But the brat can't."

SPLAT.

He crushed the heart into pulp.

"Now," Sukuna tossed the gore aside. "It's time to have a talk with the brat in the Afterlife."

He released his control over the body.

Yuji's eyes rolled back. His tattoos faded.

The body—heartless and dead—collapsed.

PLOP.

It sank into the cold water.

Mirai watched silently. He made no move to save him.

This is necessary. For the Binding Vow. For the Vessel's growth.

Mirai's indifferent mask slipped back into a gentle, fake smile.

"See you soon, Yuji."

...

The Gate.

A light drizzle fell from the gloomy sky.

Nobara Kugisaki sat in a puddle, leaning against the car wheel. She was exhausted, staring blankly at the ground.

"Megumi..." she whispered. "Is Zetsu... really dead?"

Megumi Fushiguro stood by the car, looking at the back seat.

There lay the two severed halves of White Zetsu's body.

"Cursed Spirits usually disappear when they die," Megumi frowned. "But this..."

Suddenly, the corpse began to change.

The pale white skin faded. The face shifted.

The body transformed into a complete stranger—a middle-aged man with a scarred face (a random Curse User Mirai had killed previously).

A stench of rot filled the air.

"What the hell?!" Megumi gasped. "Who is this?!"

"Yo~"

A familiar, irritating voice came from behind them.

They turned around.

Standing there was a man in a red cloud cloak, holding a rainbow umbrella, wearing sunglasses.

Blond hair (dyed white). Purple triangle markings under the eyes.

White Zetsu (in Haruta Shigemo's body) waved cheekily.

"Hey, Delinquent Girl! Were you moved to tears by my heroic sacrifice?"

Nobara froze.

She looked at the rotting stranger in the car.

She looked at the grinning idiot with the rainbow umbrella.

Her brain short-circuited.

THUD.

She fainted face-first into the puddle.

"Eh?" Zetsu blinked. "Dazzled by my handsomeness?"

"Senior Zetsu?!" Megumi gaped. "You... you're alive?!"

"Details later," Ijichi walked over, putting away his phone. He looked relieved but exhausted. "Fushiguro-kun, put the corpse in the trunk. Shoko will want to examine it."

"I'll take Kugisaki to the hospital. You wait here for Mirai-sensei and Itadori."

The car drove off, leaving Megumi and Zetsu in the rain.

...

Abroad. Unnamed Valley.

CRACK.

Ui Ui swung a giant axe, cleaving a Cursed Spirit in two.

"Sister! That man is lazy! He makes us do his mission while he stays in Japan!"

Mei Mei smiled, checking her bank account on her phone.

"That man pays very well, Ui Ui."

She took a photo of the dead Special Grade and hit send.

Recipient: Zenin Mirai.

"I love him," she purred. "For his money."

...

Abroad. Unnamed Cemetery.

"Mosi mosi~"

Gojo Satoru held his phone to his ear.

BOOM!

A Special Grade Cursed Spirit exploded from behind a tombstone, blasting Gojo with Cursed Energy.

"Hehe!" The Spirit laughed. "I got him!"

The smoke cleared.

Gojo stood there, unharmed. His Infinity blocked every speck of dust.

He didn't even look at the Spirit.

ZAP.

He raised one finger. Blue.

The Spirit's torso vanished. It dissolved into ash without a sound.

"I see..."

Gojo listened to Ijichi's report on the phone.

Mission Report: Eishu Juvenile Detention Center.

Status: Itadori Yuji confirmed dead.

Gojo's playful smile vanished.

The air in the cemetery grew heavy. The ground cracked under his pressure.

His blue eyes, usually bright, turned cold and terrifying.
