.....

It was a calm Saturday afternoon, the perfect time for one to grab a book, when Helen strolled to one of her favorite bookstores in town.

The strong winds managed to get a hold of a few strands of her silky hair, making it a messy something she hated the most.

The moment she arrived at the store, she took a look at herself in the store's glass doors.

"Great, thanks a lot wind". She tried to fix her standing hair with her palm, feeling completely disturbed with what she didn't expect to see.

After making an effort with fixing her hair into something similar to her previous hairstyle, she let out a huge sigh with a satisfied look across her face.

"This will do." She said before making her way into the bookstore. It wasn't so big compared to the other book stores around town but the welcoming part of it made Helen grow interest for it.

Helen visited the shop twice sometimes even three times a week drawn in by the owner's habit of stocking the exact kinds of novels she loved. Over time, her frequent visits grew into something more, blossoming into a warm and genuine friendship.

"Hey, love. How are you?" Helen greeted cheerfully as she approached the counter, a radiant smile lighting up her face as she opened her arms for a hug.

"Mmm, I've missed you. It's been so long," Sarah murmured, wrapping her arms around

Helen and pulling her close. She rested there for a moment, breathing in Helen's familiar scent, clearly savoring the reunion.

"Your substitute wasn't very nice, you know,"

Helen said as she finally pulled away, her grin wide and animated. "God, I hated the way she used to treat us—so rude." Shaking her head, she wandered toward one of the long rows of books.

"It's good to be back, honey. I really needed that vacation," Sarah said, following her friend down the aisle as her eyes drifted over the selection of dark romance novels lining the shelf.

"I needed the distraction, after all."

Despite her attempt at lightness, there was still a lingering sadness about her—an impression that hadn't quite faded since she discovered her boyfriend's betrayal. His infidelity had brought their three-year relationship to an abrupt and painful end.

Paris had been her escape—a way to cool her anger and put distance between herself and Derrick before she did something she might regret for the rest of her life.

The two women shared a few laughs, and soon Helen seemed satisfied with her choices. Together, they headed back to the counter, where Sarah began packing the books for Helen to take with her.

"Can I ask you something?" Sarah said, her hand pausing mid-motion as a look of quiet disappointment crossed her face. She rested her cheek against her palm, instantly drawing her friend's attention.

"Do I still have a chance… I mean—" Sarah hesitated, then let out a small breath. "Never mind. Forget it." She was already pulling back, second-guessing herself.

But Helena had caught on. Knowing exactly what Sarah was trying to say, she didn't hesitate to step in and lift her friend's spirits.

"No, girl. Look at you.".

Helen took a step back, her gaze moving over Sarah from head to toe, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "No man in his right mind would want to lose you. Anyone would be lucky just to have you in their arms."

"Really?" Sarah asked, her eyes lighting up, warmth rushing through her. Gratitude filled her chest—she was thankful beyond words to have a friend who understood her so completely.

Helen tried to sound like Helen. "Well, a man like Derrick doesn't." She made an awkward face that made Sarah giggle.

"Thanks, Helen, that's so nice of you." Sarah handed the neatly packed books to Helen.

"Alright, honey, I'll take my leave now. Looks like I've lost a few minutes of my reading time." Helen accepted the books and glanced at the store's wall clock just above Sarah.

"Go on. I have a lot to see through." Sarah waved her hand in the air, gesturing for Helen to leave.

Helen didn't waste a minute. With a simple smile at her friend, she left the store. She didn't have to pay for the books because Sarah treated her almost like a sister. The two shared a unique, strong bond; Sarah's parents were like wise guardians to Helen.

Helen had a very busy schedule, and the only resting time she had were Sunday church hours thanks to her sly boss that did everything all in the name of making her life hard. Infact not only for her but for other employees aswell.

However, Helen figured out a way she could work on her interests aswell as her boss' assignments in those provided hours.

Helen made her way to the near by cafe a stone's throw away from Sarah's bookstore somewhere else she always preferred reading her books in peace besides her house.

She ordered mango juice just to make the reading interesting.

"Captured princess," she took a hold of one of the books, carefully observing it with an impression that it might turn out to be interesting.

She had only covered a few pages when a lady's voice interrupted her. "Dark romance, huh?" Helen raised her head, facing where she had heard the voice.

Turns out it was an old lady who was holding a book in her hands as well. "Yeah, how about you?" She answered, trying to make a good impression.

"How come I didn't see her there?" Helen wondered.

"Once upon a lifetime." The old lady answered with a huge smile on her face, making Helen even more uncomfortable.

"Sounds interesting," Helen said politely.

"It's even better in person," the old lady replied, keeping the same mysterious tone, leaving Helen puzzled about what she meant. "Ummm…" Helen murmured. "You can have it," the old lady cut in, searching for a fitting response to give her.

"Have it, all of a sudden?" Helen almost shouted, and the old lady's smile vanished from her face. "l mean you were reading it," Helen added this time.

Helen responded with a polite tone, realizing her earlier rudeness to the lady.

"No my dear, this is like my hundredth time reading it. You can have it. Try it, it's really interesting." The lady left her seat and placed the book on Helen's table, offering it to her.

"Reading from here was a bad idea" Helen thought. She started feeling even more uncomfortable and decided to take the book just to get rid of the creepy old lady. "Thanks a lot, I'll try it." The moment Helen got the book from the old lady's hands, she wasted no minute of her life and immediately left the place with a smile plastered on her face just to not seem rude to the old lady.....
