The two mages assigned to the peripheral research sector declared that they had "found" a spiritual attraction ritual associated with the Deep Darkness. They claim the pattern was reconstructed from fragments scattered across uncatalogued compendia. The geometry employed, however, does not correspond to any accidental or incomplete formulation.
The diagram is directional.
It possesses a defined anchoring axis.
It operates through convergent spiritual vectorization.
The central element of the circuit is human blood.
Not as a symbolic offering, but as a boundary stabilizer. The blood functions as a marker of physical belonging, allowing the structure to establish a clear reference between the two domains — the material and that which lies beyond the membrane.
The membrane, as we know, prevents direct perception and interaction between the two planes. In Aurelion, its thickness has always been considered below average, though still functional. The ritual, however, was not designed to cross it through rupture. It was designed to thin it.
This distinction is relevant.
Rupture rituals produce collapse.
Attraction rituals produce alignment.
The pattern discovered does not seek to open indiscriminate passage. It establishes a point of orientation.
A call.
The scale employed by the two mages is limited. The geometric matrix is simple. The volume of blood used is insufficient to sustain a high-magnitude invocation. The structure presents neither multiplicity of stabilizing circles nor redundancy of containment.
In objective terms: the ritual does not possess sufficient intensity to attract the primary source.
But it possesses sufficient intensity to generate a response.
That is the concern.
As you are aware, the Order maintains under secrecy a spiritual attraction protocol of significantly greater proportions. The one we discussed for eventual execution in Aurelion, following the conclusion of the preliminary experiments.
The objective of the greater protocol was never full invocation.
It was controlled partial manifestation.
To force a limited emergence of the King of the Night outside the Deep Darkness, where its structure would be subjected to the residual resistance of the membrane. Under those conditions, it was believed possible to measure, restrict, and eventually neutralize aspects of its presence.
The ritual now executed does not approach that scale.
Even so, its geometry is unmistakable.
I do not consider it plausible that it was merely "discovered."
The structural similarity is too great for academic coincidence.
If there was external influence, it is not yet possible to determine its nature.
I limit myself to observable facts.
The bait has been created.
It is active.
And although it does not possess the strength to summon the King of the Night — Babel — it possesses sufficient strength to attract that which is already oriented toward him.
Aurelion lies too close to the frontier for this variable to be treated as marginal.
We conclude here the initial technical description. In the following sections, I will address historical precedents and possible structural consequences.
Previous records indicate that this is not the first episode of deliberate thinning of the membrane.
The so-called Long Night of the Stars, according to later academic designation, was preceded by an event of similar nature, though incomparably larger in scale.
The term adopted by scholars — "Long Night" — describes the visible phenomenon: prolonged darkening of the firmament, alteration in the incidence of light, and regional climatic instability. The description is accurate, but incomplete.
The darkening was not the cause.
It was the consequence.
What preceded the event was the First Rupture.
There is no public consensus regarding its origin. Internally, however, preserved fragments indicate a deliberate attempt to establish direct contact with what was then only a cosmological hypothesis. The intention was not destruction. It was transcendence.
Humanity sought independence from the limits imposed by the separation between the domains.
The response was immediate.
The Rupture did not eliminate the membrane. It collapsed it temporarily in specific regions. The result was structural realignment of physical space and, more significantly, causal displacement.
Cartographic accounts predating the event are not incorrect.
They are misaligned.
Maps preserved in sealed archives describe nonexistent mountain ranges, river courses that no longer maintain continuity, and cities that cannot be located. For centuries, the preliminary conclusion was technical error or imprecision of record.
This hypothesis does not hold.
Current measurements indicate micro-topographical variations compatible with progressive reorganization. Too small for common perception. Large enough to be detected by instruments calibrated for membrane fluctuation.
The Deep Darkness does not distort space alone.
It distorts time.
Not in the linear sense of forward or backward displacement, but in the sense of structural superposition. Distinct configurations coexist in layers of causality, and realignment occurs when the membrane weakens.
During the First Rupture, one of these layers imposed itself.
The subsequent darkening — the Long Night — marked the birth of what we now formally designate as the King of the Night.
In older records, prior to the Order's terminological reorganization, another name appears associated with the event.
Babel.
The term does not arise as an honorific title. It arises as description.
Linguistic fragments suggest that "Babel" does not signify sovereignty, but definitive separation.
It was not merely the separation between man and divine.
It was the separation between realities.
After the birth of the King of the Night, the membrane was artificially reinforced at multiple points across the continent. The structured foundation of the Order itself derives from that stabilization effort. Not to eliminate the phenomenon, but to regulate it.
Since then, the Deep Darkness has remained contained beyond the frontier.
Contained does not mean inactive.
Assimilation is its primary mechanism.
Assimilation does not imply destruction of matter. It implies functional integration. Entities exposed for sufficient duration cease to operate under their own motivation. They retain form, capacity, and, in certain cases, residual memory. But they begin to execute external orientation.
The distinction is critical.
If the ritual in Aurelion were directed toward the primary source, the risk would be measurable within theoretical parameters already debated.
However, structures of intermediate intensity produce another effect.
They do not summon the center.
They summon that which has already been assimilated.
And Aurelion is not a central city.
It is a frontier city.
Proximity to the frontier reduces the interval between attraction and manifestation. The density of the membrane in the region was already considered below ideal. The latest measurements indicate additional reduction after activation of the bait.
Small.
But measurable.
There is no evidence of significant mass displacement at this time.
There is, however, alteration in the rate of spiritual noise along the eastern borders.
This pattern is compatible with displacement of an intermediate entity.
If the hypothesis is confirmed, what approaches will not be the King of the Night.
It will be something lesser.
Lesser does not imply insignificant.
Intermediate entities, when assimilated, operate with efficiency devoid of hesitation. They do not seek random expansion. They seek integration of useful structures.
A city near the frontier constitutes a useful structure.
Possible damage is not restricted to physical collapse.
It may involve reorganization.
And reorganization, as demonstrated during the First Rupture, is not easily reversible.
There is another factor to consider.
Premature activation of this pattern may force the Order to anticipate the greater protocol.
If the threat materializes before full stabilization of the experiments, we will be pressured to respond with available resources.
This will imply skipping stages.
Eliminating intermediate validations.
Applying matrices whose interaction at real scale has not yet been fully modeled.
The risk is not merely operational failure.
It is structural instability.
Attraction protocols depend upon precise balance between intensity and containment. Anticipation compromises that balance. An incompletely calibrated matrix may generate unpredictable fluctuations in the membrane, expand the thinning area beyond the intended point, or produce multiple simultaneous response foci.
Under such circumstances, manifestation would cease to be an isolated event.
It would become an open variable.
Aurelion has always been considered a strategic position due to its proximity to the Deep Darkness. That proximity reduces our margin of error.
If an intermediate entity responds to the current call, the damage may be assessed and contained within known parameters.
If, however, we are compelled to anticipate the greater protocol without proper completion of its preparatory stages, we will operate outside consolidated theoretical models.
And outside model, prediction becomes supposition.
I do not ignore that some among our peers consider a new structural realignment inevitable at some point in the future.
I do not believe we are prepared to conduct it under conditions of urgency.
I fear that the initial error may attract something we still understand.
I fear even more that, in attempting to correct that error, we may provoke a phenomenon whose behavior we will not know how to map.
And what cannot be mapped can scarcely be contained.
