Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 :The Lie That Bled

Homelander's World Cracks

The footage wouldn't stop playing.

Homelander had ordered it paused.

Deleted and Burned.

But it was everywhere.

Two children.

wearing strange armor .

Laughing.

Hitting him.

Pushing him back.

Not afraid.

Ashley's voice still rang in his head.

"Sir… engagement metrics are.... "

"SHUT UP!"

The screen shattered.

Homelander hovered in the air above Vought Tower, breathing hard, eyes twitching. His reflection stared back at him from the glass perfect hair, perfect jaw, perfect lie.

They saw him lose.

For the first time, they saw him struggle.

That couldn't stand.

Retaliation Is Mandatory

He didn't wait for approval.

Didn't wait for strategy.

Didn't wait for Stormfront.

Homelander launched himself across the sky like a missile, cameras scrambling to keep up.

He broadcast the pursuit himself hero confronts alien threat, protecting humanity, taking responsibility.

He would fix it live.

Back to the Desert

Bala and Tehm felt him before they saw him.

The air tightened.

The sky vibrated.

"He's mad," Tehm said, grinning.

"He came back," Bala replied. "Again, this guy likes get beat up I think.... ."

Broko floated above them, arms folded.

"Defend," he said calmly. "No mercy. No killing."

Homelander slammed into the ground hard enough to crater sand.

He rose slowly, smiling too wide.

"Round two," he said. "For the cameras."

Homelander Pushes Back

This time, he didn't play.

He moved fast much faster than before, grabbing Bala mid-air and hurling him miles away before Tehm could react.

He followed instantly, slamming Tehm down with a sonic boom that rattled distant satellites.

For one moment

One fragile moment

Homelander felt it.

Control.

He hovered between them, chest heaving, eyes burning.

"You see?" he shouted to the cameras.

"I'm still the strongest!"

The twins struggled to rise they were caught lacking .

Dust clung to them.

Their auras flickered.

Homelander smiled.

Then Bala stood up.

And screamed.

Ki Awakens

The desert changed.

Crimson energy surged around Bala's body not refined, not elegant, but dense. Ki coated his skin like armor, cracking the ground beneath his feet.

Tehm followed instinctively mirroring his brother.

Their eyes burned.

Homelander's smile faltered.

"What, what is that?"

Broko's voice echoed calmly.

"Adaptation, something you seem to lack ."

Before homelander

Mouth Beams

Bala fired first.

A raw beam of energy tore through the sky, missing Homelander by inches but vaporizing a mountain range behind him.

Tehm followed, wider, less controlled.

Homelander screamed as the shockwave threw him end over end.

He recovered barely in time, eyes wide now not with rage, but with fear.

They weren't copying him.

They weren't learning from him.

They were becoming something else, his Image Collapse

Homelander lashed out wildly heat vision, punches, sonic bursts but every strike met dense ki barriers that bent and absorbed the damage.

The twins advanced together.

Coordinated.

Still Laughing at Homelander's face .

Cameras captured it all.

The strongest man on Earth retreating.

Stormfront watched the live feed in silence.

Her jaw tightened.

Homelander Breaks

"STOP!" he screamed.

The word wasn't for them.

It was for the world.

He charged again, reckless and furious only to be slammed into the sand by a combined ki burst that buried him half a mile deep.

Broko descended slowly.

"That's enough ."

The Bala stopped instantly.

"TEHM! "Broko repeated seriously.

Tehm stopped a bit embarrassed..

Homelander crawled from the crater, shaking, eyes unfocused.

"This isn't fair," he whispered.

Broko looked down at him.

"Neither were you so shut up and stop bitching ."

Afterm

...

Homelander fled.

Not tactically.

Emotionally, unable to accept the new ever changing status quo .

The broadcast cut mid-retreat.

Vought scrambled.

Stock plummeted.

Memes exploded of homelander retreating from 2 children with sun kissed skin and tails.

The narrative shattered.

..

Homelander didn't just lose a fight.

He lost the lie of being the top dog .

And somewhere deep inside him, something far more dangerous than rage began to grow.

Fear.
