Chapter 12 - 12: Sun

Genova stands for "highest mountain". Can't fall if I carry that name, and in return it will carry me. I've found these people, a few lunatics who sat on a bench, and they are the most joyful ones I've ever met. I was able to see it, the dramatic twist of the war. Everyday watching the news, every piece of article, I was already prepared for Nara, unlike them. So they followed my orders, one by one. I would say "go", they would go, regardless of the danger.

They had no choice, I was the only natural-born leader of the group. No protective gear, no way of getting shot. Dodging every bullet. I remember shooting tanks in their canon and killing men by aiming at their scope. I was a hero, a creature. I have no ptsd, I miss the war. So evidently upon learning all my friends were selling weapons, I saw no reason of hindering their activities. Why would I? Go ahead, buy, sell, exchange. But by all means, create a new war. So I can shine at it.

I was hearing them. "Here she goes again, Genova, alienated at the sun." Always that same sentence. I love the sun. Weapon traffickers chase weapon traffickers. I chase the sun. It always shines at me, so why not shine back? There is a force out there that wants me to be the best at what I do, surviving, killing, stealth, pressuring governments by my own presence. None of them can stop me, I pushed myself too hard. I hear the guns being armed, no matter the model. I see their muscles flinching and clenching before they pull the trigger. It is not a lonely path, only the weak-minded would see it that way. Money is never an issue, never was, never will be.

I've killed a few of these creatures from the other side. I realized the people who die in rage often come back to life, but those who go peacefully are truly gone. I make sure my victims don't have the time to process any emotions, I take them down on the spot, no hesitation.

Still, the real thrill has yet to come. These friends, I cultivate them. Let them grow, torture them a little bit, just enough to make them mature up faster. I know I can push them so far one day they will reach such a level of capabilities, killing them will bring me to completion. It will finally feel like war again.

Glerenna, second most prestigious empire on the planet. Riches and arrogance, has been highly regarded recently. Making more benefits than originally planned, and some of their practices are commonly known as shady. Situated on the east of what's left of Cressenie, they have passed many laws to prevent anyone with a violent past the access to the entrance of the bordering lands. Even the outskirts felt like martial law.

But Genova can get anywhere.

That is the message. That the entire planet is Genova's playground. Today she stole an aircraft and at high speed, crashed it onto the presidential palace but jumped out last second, and in the evening, released an emp to suppress all lights. In the dark, on the roof, her eyes contemplated her next targets. Easy to track. Easy to guess. Easy to kill. Right now there is no escape, from the moment she landed, they were finished. Or rather, from the moment of her birth, the world was condemned.

This is what the first fallen government brought down by Genova announced on television after her mission: "we are sentenced to live at the same time in history as this woman." Ever since Nara she's been chasing that high, that demented emotion, that shot of adrenaline.

War, that rare drug. Impossible to recreate, impossible to forget. The artillery shots like drum, the screams of the wounded as the singing. It was a ritual, and she was dancing on the stage to avoid dying. Everything was in place, everything was perfect. Down to the tempo, every frame in beat.

"Friends."

"Friends."

If they must perish, so be it. I hold dear nothing but the carnage. It knows me better than anybody else, I want to grow up again from a child to an adult to feel war on my skin again. I need to get my hands on every armed group in the world and silence them. Or, I could generate a world war against me. Me against the world, one versus billions. I want all existing weapons turned against me. Once I make that happen, I'll be able to truly look into the mirror and enjoy the reflection. Perfection is not enough, I am Genova. I need more. I want more. More of what I deserve.

I can already picture it. Every single piece of high-tech war weaponery aimed at me. Maybe I do need to kill everything that breathes. Perhaps when I'll have every human killed, I'll name the planet Genova. And that will be the true final act, the very point of my existence. Rewarded. Absolutely rewarded.

Genova breaks the window and shoots every guard, attaches a rope to the roof and gets all the way down, infiltrates through the hallways using a dead gunman as a human shield. Throws a flash grenade that illuminates repetitively at a high speed, uses silencers as to remain undetected and plays ball with the grenade to use as bait. She reaches the final doors faster than expected and kicks them open.

"You've sent drones to kill my office guards and keep here?"

"I'm efficient. I have high standards."

"Why the camera?"

"The entire world needs to see this. We are live! In two hours of prep time, I managed to singlehandedly reach one of the highest powers in the world. Ladies and gentlemen, meet your leader. Fearless and greedy leader. He doesn't know it yet but he's about to get skinned alive on live television. And you, my fans, are about to watch it all and you will laugh at him."
