Chapter 85 The Changes of the Prophecy

While Uchiha Touhuan and Kakashi were leading a team to eliminate the rogue Kirigakure ninja roaming the border, Jiraiya's seven-day detention period also came to an end.

After being politely escorted out of the new prison located by the Naka River by two Uchiha clansmen, Jiraiya did not linger and went straight to the Hokage's office.

When Jiraiya arrived, Hiruzen Sarutobi was working at his desk. When Jiraiya pushed open the door, Hiruzen looked up and saw Jiraiya's grinning face, and immediately became furious: "Look at what you've done! One of the legendary Sannin, arrested for peeping!"

"Hey, old man, do you think I wanted this? I asked you to pass on your crystal ball to me, but you wouldn't," Jiraiya said nonchalantly.

"The Telescope Technique isn't for you to use for peeping!" Hiruzen Sarutobi retorted angrily.

"Old man, that's not very interesting. I think you've seen quite a bit yourself," Jiraiya said.

Hiruzen Sarutobi took a deep breath, sighed, and rubbed his forehead in exasperation. Jiraiya seemed to have some special talent from a young age; he could always get him angry in less than three sentences.

"Old man, tell me, what's the matter that you called me back for?" Jiraiya asked.

"You want to learn the Telescope Technique? It's not impossible," Hiruzen Sarutobi said.

Upon hearing this, Jiraiya's face instantly broke into a lewd smile. "Old man, you've finally come to your senses! I knew it! In this area, I'm your true successor!"

Hiruzen Sarutobi ignored Jiraiya's antics and continued, "The Telescope Technique was developed by the Second Hokage to monitor unusual situations in the village. It's a ninjutsu that only the Hokage can learn. As long as you—"

"Farewell!" Before Hiruzen Sarutobi could finish, Jiraiya turned to leave.

"Come back here!" Hiruzen Sarutobi slammed his hand on the table.

Jiraiya sighed, then stopped and turned back. "Old man, you know I'm not suited to be Hokage."

"Jiraiya, I'm too old. I can't protect the village for many more years," Hiruzen Sarutobi sighed.

"Master, I'm truly unsuitable. How can a disciple be the Fourth Hokage and the master the Fifth?" Jiraiya said seriously. As for agreeing to Hiruzen's idea, that was impossible.

Hearing this, Hiruzen lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.

"Old man, you know you're getting old, so smoke less," Jiraiya reminded him. "Or I could go find Tsunade for you."

"Jiraiya, now is not the time to shirk responsibility. The village needs you to step up," Hiruzen Sarutobi said. "Do you know why I was so eager for you to come back?"

  Jiraiya shook his head.

"You must have met the new head of the Uchiha clan during your time at the Security Command," Hiruzen asked.

"Of course," Jiraiya nodded. "Clan Chief Touhuan is a man of principle."

Although he had been detained by the Security Department for seven days, they had treated him well during that time. Furthermore, he and Uchiha Touhuan had a pleasant conversation at the banquet, so his opinion of him was quite positive.

"By the way," Jiraiya said, slapping his forehead, "I think it would be very suitable for Clan Chief Touhuan to become the Fifth Hokage. He became the clan head at such a young age; his strength is unquestionable. His achievements in the Third Shinobi World War are also sufficient."

"If that's really the case, then so be it. This man isn't as simple as you think," Hiruzen Sarutobi said. "His Sharingan is the Mangekyō Sharingan, the same kind of eyes Madara Uchiha once had."

  Jiraiya was taken aback.

Hiruzen Sarutobi then explained how Uchiha Touhuan had taken Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan, recounting all of Touhuan's actions during that period. Jiraiya was shocked. He had not expected that the young man who always wore a gentle smile possessed such ability.

"Jiraiya, both Shisui and Itachi have told me that his ambitions are great, so I can't entrust the village to him so easily," Hiruzen Sarutobi said. "But now he has gathered a powerful force, and even Kakashi has joined him."

"Speaking of Kakashi, old man, isn't this your own doing?" Jiraiya said with mockery.

"Yes, I admit my responsibility in the Kakashi affair," Hiruzen Sarutobi said. "That's why I plan to step down. But I also need you to stand up and restrain Uchiha Touhuan's ambitions."

His tone even carried a hint of pleading.

Seeing this, Jiraiya pursed his lips.

"Let me think about it," Jiraiya sighed. "By the way, give me a picture of Touhuan."

Hiruzen Sarutobi sighed, found Touhuan's ID photo, and handed it to him. Jiraiya took it and left the office.

"Are you planning to ask Mount Myōboku before deciding?" Hiruzen asked from behind.

Jiraiya paused briefly, then hurried away.

After leaving, Jiraiya booked a room at an inn and summoned a messenger toad.

"Please inform Master Fukasaku that I wish to see the Great Toad Sage."

Soon after, Jiraiya was reverse-summoned to Mount Myōboku.

Seeing his troubled expression, Fukasaku asked, "Little Jiraiya, what happened?"

"I need to consult the Great Toad Sage," Jiraiya replied.

They soon reached the Great Toad Sage's cave.

"Has the prophecy changed?" Jiraiya asked.

"Yes," the Great Toad Sage replied slowly. "The future I once saw clearly has become chaotic. This has never happened before."

  "The unknown?" Jiraiya was stunned.

"I cannot see through it," the Great Toad Sage said.

  Jiraiya's expression turned grave.

"Great Toad Sage, can this man become Hokage?" Jiraiya asked, showing Touhuan's photo.

"I cannot answer that," the Great Toad Sage said. "That decision belongs to Konoha."

"If the prophecy is true, the destined person will bring peace, right?" Jiraiya asked.

"That is only in the most ideal situation," the Great Toad Sage said. "If guided wrongly, he will bring disaster."

"I understand," Jiraiya said, making his decision.

That evening, Jiraiya returned to the Hokage's office.

"I'll help for now, but once a Sixth Hokage is chosen, I'll step down," Jiraiya said.

"Alright," Hiruzen nodded. "You'll serve as Hokage advisor first."

After Jiraiya left, Hiruzen summoned Nara Shikaku.

"I plan to appoint Jiraiya as Hokage advisor," Hiruzen said.

  "I understand," Shikaku replied calmly.
