Chapter 6 - : When the City Blinked

The city was still.

Too still.

Vicky stood at the edge of the tower, looking down at the empty streets. The proud smile from earlier slowly faded—not into fear, but into focus.

Something had changed.

He didn't know what.

But his body knew.

A City That Breathes

Vicky stepped outside.

The moment his foot touched the street—

click.

A soft sound echoed.

Stone shifted.

Luka's head snapped up.

"…We should move," he said quietly.

Vicky didn't ask why.

He felt it now.

The city wasn't abandoned.

It was waiting.

Unseen Movement

They walked.

With every step, shadows stretched unnaturally long. Buildings that were straight a moment ago now leaned ever so slightly—like they were listening.

Vicky stopped.

"Luka," he said calmly,

"Is this city alive?"

Luka hesitated.

"…Not in the way you understand life."

That was answer enough.

The Feather Reacts

The black feather in Vicky's pocket suddenly grew warm.

Hot.

Not burning—warning.

Vicky pulled it out.

The feather trembled.

A low hum filled the air.

From far away—

A sound answered.

Boom.

Not an explosion.

A heartbeat.

Something Notices Him

High above the city, far beyond sight—

Something shifted.

Not a god.

Not a demon.

Something that counted existence.

Vicky felt a pressure behind his eyes.

Not pain.

Recognition.

"…It knows I'm here," he said.

Luka stepped slightly in front of him.

"Then we have very little time."

"For what?" Vicky asked.

Luka didn't reply.

Because the city answered instead.

The Streets Move

The ground twisted.

Roads rearranged themselves like puzzle pieces. Towers rotated slowly, grinding against the sky.

Paths vanished.

Others appeared.

The city was closing.

Vicky laughed softly.

Not nervous.

Amused.

"So this place decides who leaves."

Luka's voice dropped.

"It decides who is allowed to exist."

A Whisper Without a Voice

Then—

Everyone felt it.

A whisper that didn't use sound.

"Bound One."

Vicky froze.

The name wasn't spoken.

It was remembered.

His heart skipped once.

Just once.

The feather flared with dark light.

Luka turned sharply.

"…That voice," he said under his breath.

"…It shouldn't be awake."

The Door That Wasn't There

A doorway appeared at the end of the street.

It hadn't existed before.

No frame.

No handle.

Just darkness.

Pure.

Inviting.

Terrifying.

Vicky stared at it.

"Is that an exit?" he asked.

Luka swallowed.

"…Or an answer."

The Final Moment

Vicky stepped forward.

The pressure in the air grew unbearable.

Somewhere far beyond this city—

Something smiled.

Not kindly.

Not cruelly.

Curiously.

Vicky stopped just before the doorway.

The feather dissolved into black light and vanished into his chest.

His eyes glowed faintly red.

He turned his head slightly and smiled again—

That same proud, originless smile.

"…Looks like," he said calmly,

"the world finally blinked first."

He stepped into the darkness.

The doorway closed.

The city went silent.

Too silent.
