Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: A God’s Response

The beach, which had been calm just moments ago, suddenly erupted.

Fierce winds howled as the entire shoreline was instantly swallowed by a raging sandstorm.

"Sandstorm, Tyranitar," Sam commanded.

Tyranitar had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Violent grains of sand surged forward, wrapping around Dragonite's massive body and relentlessly striking it from every direction.

Yet under the sandstorm's assault, the giant Dragonite showed no change in expression at all.

The sand hitting its body felt no different from a light tickle.

Sam and Tyranitar never expected the sandstorm itself to deal real damage.

This was only an appetizer.

The real battle had just begun.

Tyranitar raised both arms.

In an instant, the sand across the entire beach went berserk.

Sand from several kilometers away was violently pulled toward Tyranitar, surging through the air like a tidal wave.

"Not good!"

Seeing the sand beneath their feet rapidly disappearing, Ash Ketchum and the others didn't dare stay where they were.

Under Brock's lead, everyone sprinted away until they were far beyond Tyranitar's range of control.

Only then did they stop.

"Hey, Brock…" Ash stared blankly at the scene before him.

"Is this really something Tyranitar can do?"

"It shouldn't be possible," Misty said, her voice trembling slightly.

"How could Tyranitar be this powerful?"

The apocalyptic scene unfolding before them sent chills down her spine.

"Is that… a tail?" Professor Bill asked uncertainly. The distance made it hard to see clearly.

Brock narrowed his eyes.

Behind Tyranitar, an enormous tail had appeared—radiating a strange, powerful presence.

It was as if that tail was providing Tyranitar with endless energy.

"This," Brock said quietly,

"must be the source of Sam's confidence."

After drawing in sand from several kilometers around, Tyranitar compressed it into a gigantic scimitar.

The blade stretched dozens of meters long.

Under the moonlight, the desert scimitar gleamed coldly, flowing with a terrifying killing intent.

Dragonite's eyes lit up with excitement.

It sensed the immense energy contained within the weapon.

That power was enough to make even it feel threatened—

Yet Dragonite made no move to stop it.

It had absolute confidence in its own strength.

The wind gradually subsided.

The scimitar was complete.

"Go, Tyranitar," Sam said calmly.

"Let a god feel your presence."

"ROOOAR!"

It moved.

The scimitar moved.

Too fast.

Before Ash and the others watching from afar could even see clearly, the desert blade had already reached Dragonite.

Was it going to hit?

The scimitar's speed was terrifying—

But Dragonite's reaction was even faster.

Energy condensed instantly in Dragonite's mouth.

From gathering power to unleashing the attack, it took less than a second.

A violent Hyper Beam erupted forth, slamming directly into the scimitar.

The desert blade was stopped midair.

Facing the overwhelming power of Hyper Beam, the scimitar could no longer advance even a single step.

Its core shattered instantly.

It's over.

The desert sword began to collapse, breaking apart as the sand scattered once more into the air.

Despite giving everything it had, Tyranitar still couldn't harm Dragonite.

At last, it fully recognized the vast gap between them.

Yet Tyranitar wasn't discouraged.

Instead, its fighting spirit burned even brighter.

"One day," Sam said softly,

"we'll become stronger than it, Tyranitar."

"ROOOAR!"

Tyranitar believed it too.

That day wouldn't be far away.

"Dragon!"

Dragonite let out a joyful roar in response.

Although it hadn't found its companions this time, it hadn't come away empty-handed.

At the very least—

It had met a worthy rival.

It was time to leave.

Dragonite waved farewell to Tyranitar, then turned and flew toward the depths of the sea, its massive figure slowly disappearing beyond the horizon.

After watching the entire battle, Misty turned to Ash.

"Hey… do you still want to challenge Sam?" she asked.

After witnessing Sam's true strength, she felt Ash should give up that idea.

The two were no longer Trainers on the same level.

Ash didn't answer immediately.

He clenched his fists tightly, remaining silent for a long time before finally speaking.

"I know I'm far from being Sam's rival," he said firmly.

"But I won't give up."

"Challenging the strong and defeating the strong—that's what a true Trainer does."

"Sam is powerful. That doesn't scare me."

"If anything, it ignites my fighting spirit."

"One day, I'll surpass him."

"And you all know my goal—

to become the one and only Pokémon Master!"

"That's right!" Brock said with a smile, fully agreeing.

A Trainer's path is one of constant challenge and self-transcendence.

The moment fear takes hold, everything is over.

Only those without fear can reach the very end.

Ash's current strength might still be lacking—

But Brock believed that with such an unyielding heart, Ash would one day become a truly powerful Trainer.

He had never doubted it.
