"Long time no see, Gary Oak."
Counting carefully, it had already been more than a month since they left Professor Oak's Laboratory. It really had been a while.
"That's right, over a month already," Gary said impatiently. "Forget that, battle me!"
As a Trainer who had also started from Professor Oak's Laboratory, Gary was extremely curious about Sam's current strength.

In his opinion, no matter what Pokémon Sam used, the result wouldn't change.
The winner would definitely be him, Gary Oak.
If Sam knew what Gary was thinking, he would probably laugh out loud.
Facing Scyther, Gary had almost no chance of winning.
