Elena's POV
"Bennett," my voice shook as I spoke his name.
I pulled the phone away from my ear, drew in an unsteady breath, then pressed it back. "Hello... how may I help you?"
Silence stretched between us, though I could hear him breathing on the other end.
My stomach clenched, but I chose to play along with his game and remained quiet too.
Eventually, he broke the silence. "Miss Vane, I should be the one asking how I can help you."
I frowned. "How can you help me?"
"I've seen why the Griffins need you, your... what should I call it... blog or online journal is massive."
My breath caught. How did Bennett discover I was behind Verity? And where had he gotten my number?
As though he could read my thoughts, he laughed. "I know everything, Miss Vane. Which is why I'm offering you a once in a lifetime deal."
"A deal?" I barely whispered.
"Oh nothing spooky, like working for me or anything," he said quickly, his voice laced with amusement. "It's something to help us all."
