Elena's POV
I settled into the couch, watching the chaos unfold around me. My pulse hammered after that conversation with Lexie.
Part of her seemed genuine, but with Lexie, everything could be an act.
The possum flashed through my mind, sending ice down my spine.
I jumped up and started pacing, desperate to shake the memory. Phoebe strutted over.
"Shouldn't you be working, genius?"
Phoebe's sneer drew chuckles from the crowd.
My face scrunched in confusion as I scanned the room. So Phoebe wasn't the only bitch here?
"She's probably hunting for another story to rip off."
Someone chimed in, sparking more laughter.
I couldn't stand there taking their crap, so I bolted from the room, my gut churning as their cackling followed me out.
Heat flooded my cheeks as I quickened my pace, fleeing their mockery, then crashed straight into someone.
"Hey." Dorian's voice.
My eyes flew wide. "Hey," I breathed, tucking hair behind my ear.
