Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Return to Lingyuan – Reunion & Reckoning [18+]

Lingyuan City, Private Airstrip, Eastern Mist District — December 27, 2028 — 4:18 p.m.

The private jet settled onto the runway with a gentle hiss. Through the tinted windows, Lingyuan's familiar gray fog waited, thicker than Zhao Ming remembered, as if the city had spent the last two weeks holding its breath. The ramp dropped. Cold, damp air poured in, carrying wet stone, distant charcoal smoke, and that ever-present faint metallic bite of ambient qi.

Lin Mei stepped out first, cream coat buttoned to the throat, scarf loose. The plain platinum ring on her left hand caught the weak light. She paused at the top of the stairs, drew a long breath, and scanned the tarmac.

Zhao Ming followed, black coat open, palm settling lightly at the small of her back. His eyes were already moving across the small group waiting near the edge of the strip.

Lin Xue stood at the front, Lin Xia right beside her, both in dark wool coats. Lin Xia spotted them and immediately started bouncing, waving both arms wildly. Duan Yue waited a step behind in plain black silk, arms folded, expression calm but gaze sharp. No sign of Yue Lin.

Lin Mei's face lit up the moment she saw the girls.

"Xia!"

Lin Xia sprinted forward, boots slipping slightly on the damp surface. Lin Mei dropped to one knee at the bottom of the ramp and opened her arms. Lin Xia barreled into her with enough force to rock her backward.

"You're back! You're finally back!" Lin Xia's words came out muffled against Lin Mei's coat. "I missed you so much. Did you see Mount Fuji? Was it really just a giant white triangle? Did you bring anything? Tell me you brought something!"

Lin Mei laughed, bright and unguarded, and scooped Lin Xia up into a spinning hug.

"We saw Fuji. It was perfect, exactly like the paintings. And yes, we brought you something. Hold still."

She fished a small velvet pouch from her coat pocket. Inside lay a delicate silver hairpin: a tiny crane with pale blue enamel wings.

Lin Xia's eyes went huge.

"Oh my god, it's so pretty. Can I put it in now? Please?"

"Of course you can." Lin Mei was already gently sliding it into Lin Xia's braid. "There. My little crane."

Lin Xue walked up more slowly. She stopped in front of Zhao Ming first, offered a small, respectful bow, then looked at Lin Mei.

"Sister," she said quietly, voice catching just a little. "You look different. Happier."

Lin Mei set Lin Xia down and stepped forward, pulling Lin Xue into a fierce hug.

"I missed you," she whispered into Lin Xue's hair. "Both of you. Every single day."

Lin Xue hugged back just as tightly.

"The pavilion felt wrong without you here. Too quiet."

Zhao Ming watched them for a beat, something warm and possessive settling in his chest. He ruffled Lin Xia's hair, then pulled Lin Xue in with one arm and Lin Mei with the other. For a long moment the four of them stood like that, family pressed close, fog curling lazily around their legs.

Duan Yue approached last and stopped a polite distance away.

"Welcome home, my Lord. My Lady."

Zhao Ming met her eyes.

"My nightshade."

She inclined her head.

"Everything remained secure in your absence. No major incidents."

Lin Mei turned, still holding Lin Xue's hand.

"And Yue Lin?" she asked softly.

Duan Yue's calm mask flickered for half a second.

"She's in the infirmary with minor injuries. Nothing critical though. She specifically asked us not to contact you until you landed."

Zhao Ming's jaw tightened.

"Take me to her."

Eastern Mist District, Shadow Lotus Pavilion – Infirmary Wing — December 27, 2028 — 5:03 p.m.

The infirmary carried the clean smell of medicinal herbs, fresh linen, and faint healing qi. Low lanterns glowed along the walls. Yue Lin lay propped against pillows on a low bed near the window. Fresh bandages covered her left shoulder and side. Her face was pale, storm-gray eyes half-lidded, but they sharpened the moment Zhao Ming appeared in the doorway.

Lin Mei slipped in behind him, fingers finding his.

Yue Lin tried to push herself up straighter and immediately winced.

"You are back.", she said lovingly

Zhao Ming crossed the room in three long strides and sat on the edge of the bed.

"You're hurt."

Yue Lin managed a small, tired smile.

"It was a Grandmaster enforcer who attacked the Mid-District restaurant. He was waiting for me, already aware I was coming."

Lin Mei moved to the other side of the bed and took Yue Lin's hand.

"You fought him by yourself?"

Yue Lin gave a single nod.

"Didn't want to drag you back early. You both needed that time. Just the two of you."

Zhao Ming's expression darkened.

"You should have called us."

"I handled it," Yue Lin said. "He's dead now. Even though he released a signal flare before dying, but no one reached the site in time. They'll hesitate now before targeting civilian locations again."

Zhao Ming reached out and brushed a stray lock of hair from her forehead.

"You're too loyal sometimes," he said quietly. "It's going to get you killed one day."

Yue Lin looked down at the sheets.

"I didn't want to interrupt. Those weeks, you deserved them."

Lin Mei squeezed her hand.

"We did. But we need you here too. We all do."

Zhao Ming leaned in, resting his forehead against hers.

"You are not expendable. Never go out alone against Grandmaster-level threats again. That's an order."

Yue Lin exhaled slowly, as he kissed her, slow and deliberate, tasting the faint salt of fatigue on her lips. When he drew back his voice was rough.

"Rest right now everything else can wait."

Yue Lin nodded, eyelids already drooping.

Lin Mei leaned down and kissed her cheek.

"Sleep, storm."

They left her in the quiet room.

Eastern Mist District, Shadow Lotus Pavilion – Master Suite — December 27, 2028 — 10:22 p.m.

The master suite was lit only by low qi lanterns and the soft crackle of the hearth. Fresh crimson silk sheets felt cool against warm skin. Lin Xia and Lin Xue were already asleep in their rooms; Duan Yue had taken up watch near the infirmary.

Zhao Ming stood at the center of the wide bed, bare to the waist. Lin Mei knelt in front of him, yukata fallen open, the new ring catching firelight. Duan Yue knelt to his right, black silk robe pooled around her knees. Yue Lin, bandages freshly changed, pain muted by strong healing qi, knelt to his left, storm-gray eyes steady even though her hands trembled faintly.

Zhao Ming looked at each of them slowly.

"We've been apart too long," he said quietly. "Qi scatters and bonds stretch thin. Tonight, we pull everything back together."

Lin Mei reached for him first, palms sliding up his thighs as her lips brushed his abdomen. Duan Yue leaned in from the side, kissing along his neck. Yue Lin pressed her mouth to his hipbone, slow, almost reverent.

He threaded his fingers through Lin Mei's hair and guided her lower. She took him into her mouth, unhurried and deep, tongue moving in lazy circles. A low groan rumbled in his chest.

Duan Yue kissed her way down his chest, tracing old scars with the tip of her tongue. Yue Lin joined her, their mouths meeting over his skin in shared, patient worship.

Zhao Ming pulled Lin Mei up and kissed her hard, tasting himself on her. Then he turned to Yue Lin, kissing her more carefully because of the bandages, but no less hungry. Duan Yue next, rougher, claiming.

He eased them down onto the sheets.

Lin Mei stretched out in the center, yukata gone, legs parted. Zhao Ming settled between her thighs and entered her slowly, watching every flicker across her face as she arched up to meet him.

Lin Xue slipped quietly through the half-open door, she had woken, restless, drawn by the pull of familiar qi. She paused at the threshold, eyes wide, cheeks flushing. No one spoke. Zhao Ming simply extended a hand.

Lin Xue crossed the room on bare feet, robe loose around her shoulders. She knelt beside Lin Mei, hesitant at first, then leaned down and kissed her sister softly, lips brushing, then deepening.

Zhao Ming kept his rhythm steady, deep. Duan Yue straddled Lin Mei's waist, kissing her mouth while her hands cupped Lin Mei's breasts, thumbs teasing until warm milk beaded and spilled. Yue Lin leaned in from the other side, tongue catching the drops, humming low at the taste.

Lin Xue's hands joined Duan Yue's, tentative at first, then bolder, fingers circling, pinching gently. Lin Mei moaned into Lin Xue's mouth, the sound muffled and needy.

Zhao Ming picked up speed, harder, more deliberate. Duan Yue rocked against Lin Mei's stomach, venom qi pulsing in soft waves. Yue Lin kissed lower, tongue tracing stretch marks, then joining Zhao Ming between Lin Mei's thighs, licking where they connected, slow and relentless.

Lin Xue shifted, straddling one of Lin Mei's thighs, grinding down gently while she kissed her sister's throat, then her collarbone, then lower, lips closing around a leaking nipple, suckling softly.

Lin Mei's moans grew louder, unrestrained. Her body tensed, then shattered, release crashing through her, inner walls clenching around Zhao Ming, milk spurting in warm arcs. Duan Yue came next with a sharp, bitten-off cry against Lin Mei's lips. Yue Lin shuddered hard, storm qi flaring bright, climax rolling through her untouched. Lin Xue followed a heartbeat later, small whimper muffled against Lin Mei's breast as she rocked herself to the edge and over.

Zhao Ming drove deep one final time, hot pulses flooding Lin Mei, golden-shadow qi surging outward in a warm wave that wrapped around all five of them, knitting meridians, realigning cores, strengthening every frayed thread.

They collapsed in a sweaty, trembling pile, limbs tangled, breathing ragged.

Zhao Ming pulled them in close: Lin Mei against his chest, Duan Yue curled at his side, Yue Lin pressed carefully to his back, Lin Xue tucked between Lin Mei and him, face buried in her sister's neck.

"I love you," he said quietly into the dark. "All of you. My family. My everything."

Lin Mei kissed his chest.

"We love you too," she whispered. "Always."

Duan Yue pressed her lips to his shoulder.

"Forever."

Yue Lin nuzzled the back of his neck.

"No matter what."

Lin Xue's voice was small, sleepy, content.

"Together."

Outside, Lingyuan's fog drifted on, patient, endless.

Inside, five heartbeats slowly synchronized.

But far to the north, in the Blue Lotus mists, elders gathered around a scrying mirror.

The signal flare had not gone unanswered.

The thief had been seen.

And the storm was no longer far away.

It was coming.
