Chapter 4 - Black Temple

{Icyvon, Wintergrave mountain}

*Stump*

*Stump*

One of the soldiers looked up at the snowy mountain and shouted.

"Stop!"

Everyone paused.

"The passage is narrow up ahead, we can't bring our horses."

The previous soldier said.

*Neigh*

*Neigh*

The group of soldiers got off their horses and gathered towards the speaker.

"What's going on," asked one of the soldiers, who were walking forward to the speaker.

"The passage is too narrow, there is barely way for two. We have to get the Slaves to form a line."

"That would be easy but what about our horses."

Before the soldier could answer another soldier spoke up.

"We leave them behind."

"Dreadfang?"

"Getting the Slaves up the mountains is what's important right now."

Dreadfang said.

"Yeah but what about our horses?" The soldier asked. "These horses are special breeds, we can't lose them."

"Serving the empire is much more important, besides some of us here are escorts, they will return after they reach the destination and if the horses are gone by then. You can forget about it."

"But they cost so much money."

"Serving the kingdom is more important," Dreadfang rebuked.

"B–But."

"Skelmor that's enough."

"DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS?"

All the soldiers kept quiet at Dreadfang's question.

"No? Good," Dreadfang said nodding his head.

"How about this. Kaelith, Veylen, Thailor and the three of you," he said, pointing at the three soldiers."Will be the first to go the path, the rest of us will stay behind and watch the slaves follow before coming."

He paused and asked.

"So how about it?"

"Sounds good."

"No problem."

"Am okay with the plan."

The soldiers answered.

"Ok, let's move!"

The six soldiers started walking towards the narrow path.

The rest of the soldiers started arranging Star and the slaves to form a line.

One of the soldiers walked towards Skelmor and said.

"It's alright Skelmor, nothing will happen to your horse."

Skelmor glanced at the speaker.

"We are ready!! You guys can come now!!"

The soldiers at the other path shouted.

"All set?"

"Yeah."

"Good," the soldier said, looking away immediately. "All of you get moving!"

He commanded the slaves.

Star and the rest began walking towards the narrow path on a straight line.

*Splash*

Snow splashes under the feet of a slave.

"Oh my God, oh my God," the slave panicks. "Am scared of heights."

"Move," Dreadfang said in an authorative tone. "Or you will face my wrath."

Terrified, the slave started walking.

In a short while, Star was already walking on the narrow.

Star looked down.

'instant death.'

That was the first thing that came to his mind. No amount of snow will save you from dying.

Star glanced towards the other slaves.

"God of Light please protect me."

"Holy lord of light protect us."

"Fuck this."

"Holy shit."

Some of the slaves prayed to God of Light, some cursed while many like Star walked silently.

Many of the soldiers snorted as the slaves prayed to their God.

"Aaaahhhh!!!"

One the female slaves shouted before she fell, dragging along with the other slaves whom were shackled with her.

"AAAAHHHHHH!!!!"

"OH SHIT NNOOOOOO!!!!"

The two other slaves said their last words before they plummetted to their deaths.

"Oh God!"

Many of the slaves became scared, some even stopped while some became more careful.

'keep moving, just keep moving.'

Star tried to control his staggering but was faced with difficulties.

His feet were extremely cold and the foul stench....the smell of the other slaves beside him were extremely disgusting and revolting.

They were worse than dogshit!

Not that he didn't smell or anything, but their smell were far more revolting than Star's. If they had smelled the same, Star probably wouldn't have noticed their foul stench.

It was simply how the brain worked.

"Aaarrrgghhhhhh!!!"

"No! No! No! AAAAHHHHHH!!!!"

"YOU FUCKING RE...."

It didn't take long before another group of slaves fell to their deaths.

"Hahahaha!"

Some of the soldiers laughed.

"What a bunch of useless twits, they can't do anything right."

"They are so useless that their God has forsaken them."

"Don't say that, you are discouraging them. Let them continue praying."

"Hahahaha!!"

Star continued to walk with shaky feet while also keeping watch of the other slaves he was chained with.

More slaves continued to fall to their deaths. Tired and hungry, it was not easy for the slaves to walk on a narrow path.

Fortunately, Star and the others made it to the other path.

They met up with the other six soldiers and once again continued their journey.

In about ten minutes, they reached the mountain top.

In the middle of the mountain, was what looked like a large Temple.

The outer walls were painted black, piles of rocks lay scattered across the Temple. The Temple had three rooftops, there was a window at each top. And at the bottom, were staircases which gardened white flowers.

Which helped form a beautiful design at the bottom.

There were many unlit lanterns at every corner of the Temple, with some missing candles.

The Temple would have looked glamorous if it weren't for the countless holes on the walls and rooftops.

Star saw many slaves moving about.

Some were carrying golds and many other types of jewels on their back while some carried huge rocks on wheelbarrows.

They were all working, doing one thing or the other.

Star and the other slaves were taken to the site at a corner, but they didn't start working immediately. They were first given food.

Hard bread and cold water.

Star took a huge bite from the bread and chugged it down.

Cough! Cough! Cough!

Star choked and coughed.

He began to hit his chest. In a few moments, he became better and began to slowly eat his food.

.....

Foooo!

The cold wind blew.

Standing at the edge of a cliff on a mountain was a middle age man dressed in a military uniform.

He had black hair and a few strands of grey hair, which signified his old age. He had eyes that spoke of experience. He wore a grim expression on his scarred face.

*Stump*

*Stump*

A soldier came over.

Stump!

"Reporting to lieutenant, sir!"
