Today was another very important day.

It might seem strange that every day in Stardew Valley is "important," making the place look incredibly busy.

That's because Stardew Valley is a lie. It masquerades as a peaceful farming retirement plan. In reality, it's a terrifying "627 Schedule"—waking up at 6 AM, going to bed at 2 AM, working seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Sure, life gets easier in the late game once you have Iridium Sprinklers, Junimo Huts, and Warp Totems. But in the early game? You grind. You plan every joule of energy. You give gifts to everyone in town to max out friendship. You forage until your inventory bursts.

And finally, you install a "Character Portrait Beautification Mod" and a "Polygamy Mod" so you can marry everyone. (But please, leave Jas and Vincent out of it. We have standards here.)

Last night, Chen went back to the Lost Village to pack. She officially decided to move to the farm. She abandoned the luxurious Mayor's Manor she had claimed for Yukari, opting instead for a cozy corner where she could curl up.

As luck would have it, Leo's farmhouse was just right.

When Leo woke up and opened the door, he was greeted by a massive, golden-yellow fur cushion blocking his view. Chen, carrying this monstrosity on her back like a turtle shell, squeezed her way inside.

She spread the two-meter-wide cushion on the floor, arranged her pillow and quilt, and declared the move complete.

"Leo! What are we doing today, meow?"

Chen bounced out of the room, vibrating with energy. Seeing Leo harvesting crops, she rushed over to help. Since she was now a "Resident," she could interact with the farm, although Leo suspected she might be stealing his Farming XP.

"Go play for now," Leo said gently, stopping the eager cat. "I need to harvest these myself to check the quality. You can help with the processing later."

He began pulling up the Garlic and Rice Shoots that had ripened overnight.

Gensokyo. Kappa Heavy Industries.

Inside a modern office, behind a massive mahogany desk, Nitori Kawashiro sat in a plush executive chair. She beamed at her guests: Yukari (sipping tea) and Ran (auditing Nitori's account book).

"What wind blew the two of you here?" Nitori rubbed her hands together. "If you'd told me earlier, I would have had the Little Kappas prepare a feast of cucumbers!"

"I've come today in a private capacity," Yukari said, maintaining her elegant Sage persona. "There are some matters I need to coordinate with you."

Nitori visibly relaxed. "Private capacity" meant "business." And business meant money.

"Just say the word! Whatever it is, I'll handle it."

Nitori snatched the account book back from Ran and locked it in her safe before resuming her unscrupulous merchant smile.

"You know about the Stardew Valley situation," Yukari began. "I've claimed a property there and need furniture. The owner also has construction needs. So..."

"I get it, I get it," Nitori winked. "You pay the 'Official Price' in Stardew Valley. Once the job is done, I return your money under the table, and we split the profits from the World Master 70/30. Standard procedure."

This was the Gensokyo way. Corruption was just another form of networking.

"No," Yukari said sharply. "Make my furniture well, and as usual, I won't pay you a cent. But for the World Master... you must charge him the Normal Price. No overcharging. No scams."

She slid one of the duplicated phones across the desk to Nitori.

"What?" Nitori frowned. "How are we supposed to make real money that way? Honest labor is just... earning a wage. Where's the profit margin?"

"That person has absolute control over that world," Yukari warned. "Would you dare overcharge the Dragon God for bathroom renovations?"

"I would!" Nitori puffed out her chest. "Fortune favors the bold!"

"..."

Yukari stared at her. "Forget it. I'm done with you. If you get kicked out of that dimension, don't come crying to me."

She stood up and left. Kappa capitalism was truly incurable.

Back in Stardew Valley.

The cat was crying.

She was wailing so pitifully that if Ran had been there, Leo would have been "suicided" on the spot.

"I'll handle the rest," Leo said frantically, shooing Chen away. "Go inside! Wash your hands with soap! Do NOT touch your eyes again!"

Rewind 10 minutes:

Leo had harvested the garlic. He and Chen sat in the clearing with small knives, peeling the bulbs to prepare them for pickling.

The process was simple: Peel until only the tender inner skin remains, trim the root, soak in water to remove pungency, dry, and jar.

Chen was enthusiastic. She peeled garlic like a pro.

Then, disaster struck.

The cat subconsciously rubbed an itch on her nose. Then she licked her paw. Then she rubbed her eye.

Garlic Juice + Sensitive Cat Eyes = Tragedy.

After sending the weeping cat to the bathroom, Leo finished mixing the brine.

He poured sugar and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio into the glass jars he had bought from Nitori (via Ran). He stirred well, packed the dried garlic cloves in, and sealed them tight.

Leo knew his pickles. Every year back home, when new garlic hit the market in April, he would buy fifty pounds of it. A single vat of "Sweet and Sour Garlic" would last him all year. It was the perfect side dish for noodles.

The Next Day.

Leo and Chen moved the sealed glass jars into the cabin.

This was a mistake.

The cabin was already a shoebox. A bed, a TV, a fireplace, and a table took up most of the space. Then came Chen's massive luxury fluff-cushion. Now, with rows of pickle jars lining the walls, Leo had to play Tetris just to walk from the door to his bed.

"Sigh. I need to upgrade the house," Leo muttered, navigating the maze.

He dumped the surplus garlic into the Shipping Bin.

Regular Garlic: 65g

Silver Star: 75g

Gold Star: 90g

He had about 40 pounds left over. That would net him 3,000 to 4,000 Gold. Combined with his existing 16,000, he had around 20,000 Gold.

That was enough for the first House Upgrade (Kitchen included!), with plenty of cash left over for seeds.

"Finally," Leo thought. "A kitchen. No more cooking outside like a caveman."
